I don't get it, didn't really like it, and it's just not my thing. I can't figure out how the solar energy thing didn't help them more.

I didn't realize I had already read this several years ago. I think I liked it less this time, even though I didn't remember many details from the book. A gradual slowing of the earth's rotation causes catastrophic events, but this book is more a coming of age story than an apocalyptic tale. I enjoyed it but felt it lagged in the middle and wrapped up the ending too quickly and tidily.

The plot was a cool concept of the world spinning slowing down and we learn about what's happening through the eyes of a 6th grade girl. I really wanted to like this one but it did not work for me. As I read I felt the pace of the story slow. This could have been a play on the storyline where everyday becomes longer and people "off the clock" also start to slow with the new daylight hours. There were little paths we went down (family drama) that I felt added no value to the story.

Really interesting story and a pretty easy read. I would have to say one of my favorite things was how the author developed the characters in the story. For me, I was able to relate Julia's (the main character/narrator)family to my own as well as so many others that I know and imagine how an actual event like this might effect their lives. I was left wishing the end of the story hadn't accelerated so quickly after a turn of events that takes place. There were lots of questions left unanswered that had me wishing for a bit more elaboration. Overall I loved the unique concept and plot of the novel and would definitely recommend it.
