LOL WHY WAS THIS SO GOOD

i’ll always love an italian mafia story! this one was a bit odd tho with the whole step brother and step sister dynamic lol. still a quick easy read and starting to feel like i’m defrosting out of my reading slump

I went into the book knowing it had a step-siblings trope, and at first, it didn’t really bother me. I just wanted to finish the series. I actually enjoyed seeing their relationship develop while he was in prison, it was cute. I liked Massimo and the banter with his “other personality”, but Zahara’s obsession with “having him roughen her up” toward the end ruined it for me.
Around 70% into the book, things started feeling wrong. I get trying to give her a decent character development, and making her confident in her skin, but she just ended up feeling like his plaything. It felt over sexualized with the exhibitionism. The scenes of them having sex in front of the mafia council just because he couldn’t control his anger? Yeah, that was weird.
Definitely my least favorite book in the series. The one star is just for Massimo and the cutie that he was.

I loved how their relationship grew, and the encrypted letters. The plot twist wasn’t that shocking considering the many clues and hints about the traitor. Didn’t understand why there was such an emphasis on exhibitionism but overall enjoyed it a lot. The tension was there, and I love how the Zahara isn’t a pushover. And Massimo is actually such a cutie, being all soft and cuddly with Zahara

I think I'm finally giving up on this series/author... I wish I knew I was supposed to read this in tandem with book #9 - why wasn't that a disclaimer at book #9/why weren't they released together?

Any who... I can't do the step siblings getting their freak on - it's just too weird for me.
