3.5 stars, a little generously.

First, the ‘meh’: this is a relatively predictable chic lit/romcom book. Nothing shocking, and at times I was skimming through a few detail paragraphs that ran long. Even for a romcom story, the logic & drama of some characters was a lot for me - this adult woman swearing off of all friends ever because 1 friend royally screwed her over - it’s a lot.

The good: it was such a fun read. I liked the characters, I liked the whole ‘bridesmaid for hire’ thing, and the romance while predictable was cute. I like Rea’s writing style and how blunt and real her characters can be. Family issues and abandonment are once again main themes that are well represented (even if wrapped up a bit too conveniently at the end)

The silly: this book is not about the zoo but it talks about the zoo… A LOT. Which was of course once again amusing and ridiculous and I loved it. The idea that a habitat designer might need to run across the zoo because GLEN (the wombat) got out is so hilarious because just..what? Why? How is this relevant to our story other than name dropping our Wombat? Amazing.

Overall, would recommend if you’re looking for a fun, lighthearted read!

DNF, on hold, never picking up again. Idk.
I’m on page 36. THIRTY SIX and I already hate Willa.
Am I going to find a FMC whose head I don’t want to cut off?

It's cute. This book could be sold as a YA romance and make more sense. Plot was alright but more predictable than I care for personally.

Okay, but the premise of a secret bridesmaids agreement sold me for this debut It's less about romance and more about finding yourself and friendship, but add that romantic twang in and it was a great recipe for success.

I received an ecopy of this book through Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own.

im a sucker for wedding content. also featured a name drop of the salon my fav high school teacher’s family owns (also where she met joe biden)

Loved this so much! Fun, relatable characters with a plot that really surprised me, in a good way. There were a few times when I thought something very cliched was about to happen and I was not correct, to my relief. I felt deeply for the main characters, and loved the entire experience. Also, all the little Columbus nods were so much fun! It’s not often that I know so much about the city a book takes place in.

A solid 3.5 for this cute book. It is set in Columbus! So I loved all the references (Third and Hollywood, Olentangy Trail, Clintonville, Katalina's, Short North, Condado) ❤️

I found this book enjoyable, but maybe it's me... but I hate when an author constantly repeats the background stuff. I get if it's been a few chapters and it makes since for the character to think it again. But when it's just a pages later and the MC is rehashing her inner turmoil, I want to scream "I'm not stupid! I remember "she wants to leave town" or "she's not a real bridesmaid."
