Wow - I'm officially hooked! The mayor and deputy take a journey into the depths of the silo to meet the most likely candidate to hold the sheriff's office. You get a sense of how large the silo really is through this telling, as well as the political and social structure of their society.

The second book in the Wool series is still mostly about world building. We have two dispensable characters who are essentially giving us a tour of the silo. We get introduced to how the silo is set up and a little closer to the main content. This book made me a bit more interested in where the story was supposed to go, but once again, it didn't make a very interesting stand alone story.

Having read this second book of the series I am no closer to understanding more than a small fraction of any character's motivations for actions that are presented seemingly as obvious. But my main issue is - why is there no lift/conveyor mechanism in the silo?? There may be good reasons but they're never even alluded too, and while fundamentally it may be in service of 'keeping the rabble rousers down' the fact it's not addressed is bizarre.

This series is barely keeping me. I just don't feel attached to the world or the people in it. I will give it one more more go.

Coming back to the silo after the cleaning. I must say, I enjoyed this installment more than the first one. I might be hooked.

Things I loved: The Mayor, The Deputy, and their relationship. Jahns and Mames, sitting in a tree...you know the rest, but not really. It's still sweet though. Finding out more about the silo.
I'm torn on Juliet. I part love her, part not, but we will see how she fleshes out in part 3.

And that cliffhanger ending? I can see why people are hooked on this book series. 3.5 stars.

Unfortunately the second Wool book really didn't work for me. It almost felt like it was set in a whole different world. It was very very light on plot. It had no twists. I got through it, but I had no desire at all to read the remaining... four? books in the series.

Shortest book review ever? Probably. It just didn't drive me to read it, and thus it really doesn't drive me to write about it. It wasn't bad, it was just too slow and meandering for me.

An interesting continuation of Wool. I didn't expect to be following the journey of Mayor Jahns and Deputy Marnes, who had small roles in Wool, but alas, that is what occurs. There was a lot of description and it as interesting to get into Jahns head, though I wanted more. It was also interesting to see the rest of the deep, dark Silo. It is very deep. This was yet another short novel and that ending:
Spoiler holy cliffhanger danger!
. I was weary of actually continuing the story at first, but that ending pulled me back in. So, perhaps I shall read the 3rd in this series!

People seemed to not like this part as much as the first, but I think I liked it just a touch more. There was a huge deal of world building, which is my favorite part of most stories. I also felt more attached to these characters as I read. I'm not sure why, but they just felt more real.

A great follow up, with the horrible happening and then the climb (which I envisioned as the polar opposite of an Everest climb) to the bottom is a good, solid read.
