What do you get when you mix Chicago, bad boys, prep school and guns? You get this new series, which I am totally loving. While the plot was pretty predictable, I never regretted paying my admission for the ride the book took me on. The character dynamics were fascinating, and watching how things all fell into place in the end, and how the next book was set up, definitely left me with anticipation for a sequel. My one BIG problem with this book is that neither cover I have seen fairly depicts this story. The ebook I read had the white cover with the extremely steamy embrace on the cover. Which I admit totally got my attention. However, once you read the book you realize that the male is missing a LOT of the things that make Nixon who he is. He's the bad boy, and yet this cover has a cleancut preppy. The other one is worse as its boring and generic. I just hope that eventually this book'll get the cover it deserves.
Big thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for access to this title. It made for a great read today.

I found the Elite to be a quirky book. It is not particularly realistic, nor does it try to be. Instead, it feels a bit like a written cartoon, in the best possible way. The book is fast-paced, there is always something happening and you will not get bored reading it. The characters are very likeable, if a bit cliché (all these super fit boys falling at Tracey’s feet or almost, the incredibly lovely and friendly room mate who happens to be part of The Elect), but they go well with the light-hearted tone of the book.
That said, I wish it was a little less easy for Tracey. There was a big fat opportunity to have a club of mean people bullying her non-stop, but they very quickly became sort of friends. Monroe’s character could have been a brilliant bitch, and I’m a bit sad they ended up BFFs instead.
I also found tedious the amount of time it took Tracey to found out the truth. It was particularly obvious from the beginning, and the first part of the book felt very long because of that. But it does become interesting once the secret’s out, and I am looking forward to the next book.
I also felt a bit annoyed at some of the author’s references. I don’t particularly care to see references to Twilight or Taylor Swift, and a note to all of you authors out there, please do not compare your overly hot boy to a famous person. Keep it to yourself, thanks. I was enjoying imagining Nixon right up to the point where it was mentioned that he looked like Channing Tatum, whom I really do not find attractive in the slightest. Now the character’s ruined for me :(
But all in all, a very entertaining read if you’re not after masses of realism and soppy deep typical NA stories. Van Dyken’s style is very enjoyable and her characters are easy to like and identify to. A good summer read if you’re looking for a quirky book that sticks out.

Well....what a great start to this series. I jumped into this with book seven, so to come back and seen them younger is so much fun. This audiobook made me laugh out loud several times. I love this world!
I do wish book one would have been a complete
Story, but I love Trace and Nixon so I’m not really complaining about more.

Love it! it got to my heart and got me all hot and bothered in a good way. 5 Stars and I can't say more because I need to continue reading.... I want more!
OMG! This book was

I can't even begin to describe how much I loved it!
I saw this book a few weeks ago on Amazon and fell in love with the cover. Then I read the description. I was hooked. I was dying to read it. But…I couldn’t. I had a plan…a book plan. I had it planned out (through buddy reads) what I was going to read. So I put this off. But it wasn’t far from my mind. I thought about it daily. Then, I finished a book that was mentally exhausting. I could feel a book funk coming on. As I was flipping through the pages of books on my kindle, I saw “Elite by Rachel Van Dyken” and decided to give it a try. From the first word, I was hooked.
Lol. I didn’t know whether I was supposed to love or hate Nixon and Chase when they were first introduced. I hated them for how they treated Trace but I was also intrigued. They made the book so much fun! (And it doesn’t hurt that they’re both hotties! ;) ) I honestly didn’t know who I liked more. And just when I thought I had it figured out, things would change on me.
I felt so bad for Trace. She was treated horribly by the other students at the school. I did like Monroe, she was a good friend. But part of me wishes we saw more of her. Poor Trace, she was completely in the dark. Everyone was keeping secrets from her. But I enjoyed her as a heroine.
This book had me laughing, had my heart racing and even breaking with the events that occurred. I couldn’t think of a better book to read. This was perfect. I have to say, the author did an amazing job. I can’t wait for more books from this series and I’ll be buying up all her existing books as soon as this review is posted. She has a new fan and she is a new auto-buy author for me.

If I could, I would give this book more than 5 stars. One last thought: If you haven’t read this yet, go read it. It’s a great book that will keep you hooked.

This book wasn't what I expected at all. I found the story line to be very interesting and had fun trying to figure out what was going on! Looking forward to reading the next book and seeing how everything will play out!

I received an e-copy of this book from the publishers at NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
As I have said in some reviews, I work at a bookstore. It's actually the best way to learn about new authors outside of being a blogger. I had seen a few Rachel Van Dyken books come through the way and was intrigued. When I realized that I actually had a few of her books for review I was even more determined to give this new author (new to me at least) a gander and see if I liked what I read. This series, The Eagle Elite, was not one I had heard about from her. After reading the synopsis my immediate impression was, 'Ooo, secret society?' I wanted to see if my assumption was correct.
Tracey didn't know what to expect when she started school at Eagle Elite University. She knew she would be surrounded by distinguished, upper-class students and wasn't sure how a farm girl from Wyoming would fit in. Her determination to do right for her grandfather after her grandmother's death was the driving force behind her remaining at the school. The students made her life hell. Especially the students in an elite group called The Elect. Nixon, their leader, seemed to have a personal vendetta against her. She sustained tarnished remarks to her reputation, physical and emotional abuse, and all sorts of torment from her classmates. Nixon, while maintaining a superior air, started making it known that she was protected by him. It was then that Tracey started forming a love-hate relationship with the Student Body President.
Eventually Tracey found out that there was more than meets the eye with the handsome Nixon and his posse. What she finds out makes her question who she is, where she comes from, and why she feels so connected and familiar with Nixon.
I genuinely liked this story. I got a little misty when I saw all the torment that Tracey went through. I was even more teary eyed when I started to see just how much Nixon truly cares about her. Everything he does has a reason behind it and most often it's his misguided way of protecting her. I liked the connection between Nixon and Tracey and found them to be an amazing pair of protagonists. I liked the whole secret society situation that appears to be going on and then eventually finding out it's totally different. I had a hard time truly finding much to dislike about this book, which is amazing for me. I normally find at least SOMETHING I don't like.
I think Elite and the Eagle Elite series would be perfect for someone who likes to be surprised at every turn or someone who likes to watch a couple who don't immediately fall in love at first sight. Tracey and Nixon work at their relationship. It's not handed to them. It makes the story believable and real. We all need a little reality in our fiction or the thrill of getting lost in the author's world isn't as satisfying.

Van Dyken continues her amazing series that draws you in Blood in, never out
I really loved this one even though it is completely unrealistic :) I like living in a fantasy world! Can't wait for no.2!
Dang!!!!! Even after reading the excerpt of Elect, I'm going to have to get my hands on that book! I had no idea Tracey, Nixon and Chase are both books! Im loving the build up of this mafia world, I've only heard they get more gritty and just heard so many good things about this series!
