In the beginning I was so upset with how Trace was treated. I had a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach when she was around any of the Elite because I didn't understand how they could be so cruel. I am still not sure I like how easily she let Nixon in after he mistreated her. Surprisingly, the mafia part intrigued me, and I found myself really enjoying the book. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series when it comes out.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'd been in a reading slump...none of the books I have been picking up, which I would normally love and devour, just weren't doing it for me...Until I picked this up last night, just before bed, and couldn't put it down until it was done at 2:00am.
Just enough mystery to keep you reading. Potential love triangle. A really hot guy you just love to hate, and a really strong, stubborn girl who doesn't take sh*t from anyone...especially arrogant student body presidents.
Can't wait to see where we go from here.

This was not like any of the books I have ever read and I loved it. I have added it to the list of my favorites. I need the second book NOW!!!! I can't wait till November. I need it now. I pray to God the third book releases shortly after the second cause I can't wait this 7 month gap anymore. It's killing me. Great book if you couldn't tell from my above statements. It was a little touch and go at the beginning because at first I hated Nixon and then I didn't understand him and now I just love him. I want her to be with him, but I love Chase too. I don't want him to get his heart broken. I don't know how I want this book to end up but I can't wait to find out. I never wanted November to come so fast in my life. I NEED ELECT NOW!!!!!
dnf - I didn't realize it was a mob book. those aren't my cup of tea. Not the author's fault though, she has had some good reviews on this
I finished reading this book because I'm on a path this year and I need to finish what I start.
Having said that...
What a hot mess this book was! I did not understand any of it! the characters were so so SO messy, the story didn't make any sense! This kind of crap at college? WTF!!
I just didn't like any of this! and honestly it was a struggle to finish reading it...

Good! Found the characters interesting, can't wait for the next book in the series!
I wanted to take care of him, like he took care of me. He was my rock, and now it was my turn to be his.
When Tracey Rooks gets picked in the annual lottery for a chance to attend the prestigious Eagle Elite College in Chicago, she has no idea what she has walked into. But it was all a setup. A plan in motion. It was time.
From a farm out in Wyoming living with her grandfather, Tracey is determined to help do her part by getting a good education and job for their future.
However, The Elect are not welcoming.
'Memorize it now, because as of this moment, you can't touch us.'
The Elect consist of a group of elite pupils who run the school behind a very dangerous and powerful name. But Tracey knows none of it, only the cruelty that they show to protect her. They pull her close and push her away, but Tracey tries to stay with it. She has to believe that she can belong here. She has to not let them get to her.
"Everything you've ever known... is about to change."
There's power in a name. And when it comes down to business, Tracey's name means power and blood, something she's never really known, but now she's thrown into the deep end. She finds herself in the midst of a turn of events as the past catches up to the future for The Elect.
She was the enemy, but as things heat up, lies and betrayal leads the group all into danger as all hell is set to break loose.
They are coming.
“For a moment, life isn’t as hard as it seems. Effortless. It’s effortless, and then the gauntlet falls.”
Settling into Eagle Elite, Nixon is the boss and makes Tracey's life another kind of hell. He makes the rules. He is steel and stone, but only because he has to be. But the group starts to fall apart as the enemy becomes their undoing- her.
She was always his, if only she would remember. But they aren't possible. It would go against everything for them to be together.
And then there's Chase... and there's a new kind of fight on the brink.
“Sometimes, Chase… it’s the emotional wounds that hurt the most.”
This book was good! I liked the characters and the story was quite good too. I did have a bit of a problem towards the end of it- I liked Tracey's sass when she got going but then at the end, it was just one reaction that put me off almost the entire book which annoys me but I did enjoy the book at the same time.
I enjoyed the first book, but found there were many plot holes within the story and at times it was confusing. It kept my interest and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Trace (Tracey) is a farm girl from Wyoming (or is she?), who wins a prestigious slot at a very select elite private college. Things do not go well for her. She is tormented, taunted, and picked on by just about everyone. She meets a charming, yet arrogant, self-centered boy named Nixon, who seems to have a gaggle of followers. He sends such mixed singles, that you will have whiplash reading this. One minute he is vile and cruel, and the next he is melting Trace's panties.
Most of the story centers around Trace and Nixon, but we also meet Chase along the way. He is Nixon's cousin and is charming and very much Trace's savior. I can only hope that we are leading to a love triangle in future books. I enjoyed the mafia aspect of the story, I was looking for a good fiction series that has a little mob flair and I think I have found it.
