deeply depressing and feels worse in 2025 than i think it might have in 2019. i enjoyed reading but it felt a little similar to other desperate-girl fiction i've read and didn’t do anything groundbreaking for me

This is one of my favorite books. I’ve read it dozens of times since it came out. And it’s Butler’s BEST BOOK. There is way more empathy for this character than for her other protagonists, and it has a happy ending. It’s clever, smart, funny, dark, and hopeful. I really love it.

i love butlers writing and i love the rage but this pulls a lot of comparisons in my mind to 'my year of rest and relaxation' and thats an all-timer so this falls short a little in comparison
