a quick and interesting read told through the perspective of a woman’s delusions, set in chicago. really liked this book, a very unique way of telling a story of young adulthood and employment

*I read books for my own enjoyment, any reviews are just my opinion, I'm sure other people have conflicting opinions.*

This isn't a good book. I am all for an unlikeable/difficult character, I see the attempt at showing mental health and interpersonal issues, I just don't think it's done well.

I was recommended this book as someone who likes a strong female lead and an uncomfortable protagonist. So my expectations were high, unfortunately I just thought it was all a bit boring. If a book is about something as mundane as going to your office job then it has to be well written with good character development to give it anything to keep you reading.

She goes to work, she thinks she's good at her job, it cuts to her manager who thinks she's bad at her job, she goes home and drink and is disorganised, she cleans her act up, she's still a mess, she gets fired, somehow cut to the future and actually, she has a permanent job and is doing okay but not great.

Millie isn't that deep.

She's just like me in the most terrible sense of the phrase. This book is a weird introspective piece of literature that just makes the reader feel absolutely depressed and helpless. The main character makes horrible decisions, the side characters and points of view are horrible to her and the story is just straight-up depressing.

This novel was very depressing, but that was the point. It was raw, candid and melancholic.

It didn't pique my interest but I was not totally bored by the narrative either. I enjoyed the shift in narrative voice especially.
