A good read. I will say that this book's pacing is quite fast, so I think it would be a really good book if you're looking for something to pull you out of a slump. Hoover has a way of drawing the reader in from the first page, and this book is no different. The dynamic within Merit's family right off the bat causes a generous amount of curiosity, especially paired with the first scene in the book with Sagan. Merit is a character I quickly empathized with, as I'm sure many other readers did as well. Her situation is difficult, to say the least, and the feelings she experiences in terms of noticing a general dullness in life, as well as judgement and annoyance made me feel extremely sorry for her. Especially considering it seems her family causes these feelings more often than not. When she writes the letter and more details of her life are revealed, you can't help but feel worse for her. Feeling responsible for the fate of your loved ones by keeping secrets that torment you to do so can feel extremely lonely, and Merit unfortunately has to go through this difficult feeling. After the climax, however, things start to come down rather fast. The book concludes itself into a nice little bow, leaving the reader feeling glad for Merit and her family, and confident that the road ahead will be much smoother for them. A pleasant, quick read.

This was my last CoHo to read until she writes more. I’m in several CoHo FB groups and this book definitely gets a bad rap. That’s why I waited until last to read it. I wasn’t excited about it based off the opinions of others. Life means only you are living it from your perspective and sometimes it’s all too easy to misjudge a situation. This book dives deep into that aspect and it’s eye opening to say the least. A refreshing reminder to look at something from more than just your point of view and be kind.

This one was “jus okay.” I’m used to CoHo books drawing me in instantly and this one just seemed to drag on and not really have much of a point or plot.
