Colleen Hoover, you bury me. What started as a quirky, almost silly story sneakily turned into a deeply moving one of flawed families, misperceptions, mistakes and ultimately, forgiveness. I loved this book so much.

I think I read this book in about two days. It starts with a girl meeting a boy, who turns out was involved with her identical twin, from there a complex family story and relationships evolve throughout the book.

"You bury me."

This book was really addictive, I read it in one day, and I think that's just because of Colleen Hoover's writing style (this is my second book by her), she leaves me always wanting more and in a state of mind that's constantly going back to the story. I instantly was entranced by Merit, Sagan, and her whole family dynamic. Something about having feelings for someone you're not supposed to always gets me, and it definitely helps that Sagan connects with this side of my mind that loves the morbid and macabre, he's one of the more attractive male leads in a book that I've read in awhile. Plus he's so sweet and caring
Spoilerany guy who'll shove his fingers down your throat when you've just ingested pills that could possibly kill you, then take care of and soothe you later when you're sobbing yourself to sleep, is 100% a keeper
. I really appreciate the depiction of depression in this as well. As someone who suffers from that, and didn't recognize it for a long time, it's just comforting seeing a character go through something similar, and coming out on top.

Those things being said aside though, there are reasons why this book didn't get a higher rating from me. I feel like Colleen tried to put too many subjects, and subplots, into one short book, that nothing got quite enough attention or development as I'd have liked. The romance being one of them, for a book that's tagged as romance, it's nowhere near as prevalent as I'm sure most readers like me expected. What's there is still good, I just wanted more. I'm also not a big fan of most of the characters. I understand that some of them are meant to be written in a bit of an unlikable way, but it just makes it harder for me to want to read a book about characters like that. Especially when one of them in the main star. Merit was so all over the place for me, sometimes I connected with her, and felt for her, and others just made we want to give her a good slap. I know that that's part of her depression, but that doesn't mean it was enjoyable to endure as a reader. In fact, it created such a disconnect for me in the halfway point, that I just started to wonder why I was bothering to continue. Luckily the last third picked back up, and there was a nice ending. But reading a book shouldn't feel like that, I shouldn't have to suffer through parts of a story just to get to the good stuff, all of it should be good (I mean good to read, not just happy stuff all the time, even painful stuff can qualify as the "good stuff"). I still overall liked this, and I'm excited to read more by Colleen Hoover.

Very different for Colleen. I loved the fact that it takes a slow decent into mental health alongside a 'normal' families day to day life of trials and tribulations.
