I listened to the audiobook narrated by the author himself, and found it rough to get through. I just wasn't engaged enough. I suspect it was due to my subconscious being fully aware the author is a piece of shit human being (look it up if you're unaware). Doing my best to ignore that though, I think the story itself was whimsical and fantastical. The ending might have been a little predictable, but still - the story itself didn't really have any big flaws.
A pleasant read but some very elementary twists in the storyline.
-De Carabas coming back to life
-Richard defeating The Beast
-Door opening the wrong door
All a bit 🙄

The main character is unremarkable in every way and somehow Neil Gaiman ia able to make you care about this person and want to know what happens next. I love how the book was written under multiple points of view.

This was not what I expected. I was a bit bored throughout the first half and thought this one jumped a little all over the place for my taste but then I found myself pleasantly enjoying the second half! Magical characters in an Alice and wonderland esc (but make it dark london) setting drew me in with its dark wonder. I slowly found myself invested in Richard’s tale of madness and wonder. Door was my favorite character and while not my favorite read of the year I’m still glad I picked this one up!

Author may be a POS, but the story is good, and so was his narration. Glad it was through the library though
