Neil Gaiman always delivers very imaginative stories written in beautiful prose, and this one is no exception! The pacing dragged a little bit in the middle for me, but overall I really enjoyed this whimsical adventure! It is such a rich world, it feels like Gaiman could write another dozen stories within London below and I'd enjoy them all!

What an amazing story. Neil once again weaves a unique world tethered to our own, with likeable characters, and plot twist along the way. I was entranced with London Below and will be looking forward to other glimpses into it.

This book gets a 5 just for the creativity and uniqueness. This is why I love fantasy books in there way of bringing you into a completely different world. The additional story at the end of the Marquie finding his coat again I could've easily done without. But I loved how unique the characters were and there were things to love about them each. And I throught Richard going back in the end was about right. I would say this is one of my favorites just for the childlike reading emotion that it created throughout the entire book. Easily a world I would be interested to know more about. Also the loss of Anesthesia hit me out of nowhere actually, that was a well written scene.

Next, please!

One of the most amazing stories I've read. Gaiman has such a wonderful imagination and a great style.

4 stars, easy. And probably more stars.

This is fine read, really fine. Neverwhere is a steampunky adventure before there was steampunk. Actually, there is no steam but there is a bit of fog. The story is set mostly underground in a London multiverse. In this world the Undergrounders are aware of the Aboveground although the Abovegrounders have no sense of the parallel universes swirling near them. The lead character, Richard is a rare Abovegrounder who actually sees both above and below the surface. Incidentally, Mr. Nobody Owens has similar special sight in Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. In Neverwhere Gaiman tosses in accidental swashbuckling, a dash of crush-on innocent attraction, and a heaping hint of “you can’t go home again.” His descriptions of the London Underground involve more than predictable subways, train cars and transfer stations. Although some of the subway system is familiar -- in that it is shared by unaware Abovegrounders -- the rest of the Underground world is a drippingly crisp and harsh society. Gaiman throws in a chunk of labyrinth (an actual labyrinth, yes, but not so maze-like that you actually get lost) and then mixes a dash of Roman/London history. Combine all that and hold on to the edge as you discover where the good and evil appear. Neverwhere is a fun read from beginning to end.
