The entire book's story happened less than a month, its quick paced not a lot of unnecessary dramas and cute banter. Some spice was okay, def a better one than twilight ✌

I was quite excited to read this as I love a good paranormal romance. Having enjoyed Night World series, Vampire Diaroes, Twilight and Lynsey Sands' Argeneau series, I was expecting an easy sultry read I could sink into but this felt quite disjointed.
First thing that gave me the ick was our suppposedly sexy vampire constantly calling our main character "pet". We never really talk about the age gap with vampires but he really did give off old man vibes it was the equivalent of calling her "dearie" and jarringly at odds with the nore erotic scenes.
Character-wise we learned literally nothing about them. Aside from Thea being a cellist I didn't really know much about her. Despite altering first person POV each chapter focused on plot and dialogue only but we never got much internal monologue which made these characters feel so flat. Julian doesn't want to get married. Thea likes music and is extremely naive. How can I root for their forbidden love when I don't really know them?
Plot felt really vague abd low stakes. Not much happened expect for silly misunderstandings, a vague threat of some type of rebels and the fact that Julian's controlling mum wants him to marry. No real development or plot points.
This togethet just caused what should have been a predictable but indulgent read to feel empty and lacking. A real shame as this author also wrote Crewel which I thought quite innovative.

Book 98 of 2025 finished 11/9/25 ⭐️⭐️
Book 1 in the Filthy Rich Vampire series
After thirty years asleep, vampire Julian Rousseaux wakes to find his mother demanding he marry before the season ends. He doesn’t want a wife. He doesn’t want love. But then Thea, a kind, utterly human stranger stumbles into his world, she needs protection, and he needs a fake girlfriend.
The plan is simple: one year of pretending. No feelings, no strings. But as they navigate society’s spotlight, the line between fake and real begins to blur…And falling for her might be the most dangerous thing he’s ever done.
My thoughts: I found this one quite predictable, with a plot that didn’t offer much depth or surprise. The characters failed to leave an impression, neither particularly likeable nor compelling and their development felt flat. The writing itself comes off as amateurish, with moments that lacked polish or emotional weight. It ends on a cliffhanger, but unfortunately, I’m not invested enough in the story or characters to continue the series.

Fulfills my brain's need for romance, drama, tension, and a dash of paranormal/fantasy. And yearning, a lot of yearning.
I'm so glad these books were on sale at The Works - i can go straight into book 2!

Cliché and unlikeable characters. The hero seems to have three categories of women: mom, heroine, and objects. And all he knew so far about the heroine is that she smelled good and was beautiful-but-didn't-know-it.
