This book is such a great start to a series! I loved the forbidden romance from the beginning, the only fault I have with this book is how dismissive Julien can be of feelings and humans in general! Can’t wait to read the next ones. I love Thea and I feel for her so much! I really hope they get their happy ending. I also hope to see more of Jaqueline and Seb

If there is such a thing as a modern equivalent to the 80’s bodice ripper, this book would probably qualify. Yes, there are a few differences such as the lack of Fabio on the cover, it not being set in Regency London, and the fact that it has vampires… but the tone is similar up to and including the lust at first sight (smell in this case) for the innocent, down on her luck virgin FMC trope, that it doesn’t signify (at least, at first). Add to that, the MMC also has to find a wife and there are society rules to follow with one being rich and the other not… Predictable? yes. Fun? hell yeah!

I cannot comment on how close it is to “Filthy Rich Asians” since I have not read it, but even so, I can say with certainty that this book is a delight for those of you out there looking for an easy read full of banter, some spice and fun escapism.

The author is obviously a devoted fan of modern magic and vampire lore since there were nods to “Twilight” (and “50 Shades”), “Interview with the Vampire”, “A Discovery of Witches” and a touch of “Harry Potter”. Along with the other influences that I previously mentioned, it would be easy to assume that this resulting story was a hopeless mish-mash. I can tell you unequivocally that you are wrong.

The story of Julian and Thea is one that swept me away in the best sense. Humour, emotional presence, tension, banter, passion and spice (🌶️🌶️🌶️) are all here in a book that took me by surprise. I knew from the start that it would be fun, but it also had some surprising mystery and depth.

Unfortunately for me, it ended on a cliffhanger so I will not waste anymore time writing this review when I could be reading the next instalment…
