Note to authors: When you're writing a series, leave your readers wanting more. End on a high note. Don't drag things out until readers hate your books, but only keep reading because they've already invested SO MUCH time in the series. Your books should be getting more interesting and action packed towards the end of a series, not dragging and filled to the brim with filler.

This book could have been 200 pages instead of 800 pages, and still told the same story. This was 90% conversations, and 10% things actually happening. We had the same conversation probably 10 times. Sophie wondering if she should do something. Sandor (her bodyguard) stepping in and saying she absolutely should not. Then everyone arguing about it some more. And Sandor saying maybe they should see what her parents think. And then some adult surprising everyone by saying it's actually not a bad idea for her to do the thing. And then they debate about it some more for 50 more pages. And then she goes ahead and does the thing. I wish I was kidding. Two stars is generous for this book.

I really hope there is only one more book in the series, and the author won't decide she can actually drag this out just to make more money, even though she really doesn't have more story to tell. The start of this series had so much promise, but there is absolutely no reason this series needs to be 9 books that are 800 pages long. Middle grade readers don't have that kind of attention span.

I always cry at the end.

As good as always. I love this book. The first time I read it when it first came out I was just trying to get through it so I wouldn’t get spoilers from the 10 other people in my class who had already read it. Keep in mind it had come out the day before I got it. I just reread it and it was so much better when I could take my time and enjoy it.

UGH why couldn’t keefe have woken up before the end

It wasn't a bad book overall, but I'm beginning to realize just how much I've outgrown this series. When I was younger I loved it, but the language and the writing feels a lot younger, between the nicknames and jokes. I also have come to realize that KotLC is the only set of books that can make me attracted to toxic boys.

Ok so as to the actual book...

I feel like the plot is really getting somewhere now! Finding out about Sophie's mom, and learning about the Neverseen's real plan was cool. Also Lady Gisela's main plan.

I do appreciate that Keefe is getting older and more mature, but I also miss his jokes because this entire book feels a little sad Keefe vibes.

I love the final snippet from Tam's POV. I would love to see more of Tam.

Tam and Biana are my favorite characters now.

Fitz is high key pretty toxic in this book but I still like him because I realize that he's literally lived his entire life trying to be perfect and he loses it when he can't be. It's only getting worse though, not better - so I am looking forward to either character development or a villain arc (like Alvar is predicting) and I'm here for both.

I wish I saw more of Keefe and Fitz's best-friendship. As much as KotLC is a story of ship wars, I love good friendships and I need more. I'd also like to see more of Sophie and Biana's friendship, and more. All in all I want more platonic friendships.

Dex and Biana are so cute and I love it.

Ro is a very unprofessional bodyguard?

To me, the characters feel somewhat 2D. Their personalities feel a little stilted.

Finally - it was very dramatic. A lot of misunderstandings. If I were Sophie, I feel like I would understand because she's so stressed constantly. However, I do not understand why she is so angry at Oralie, or so desperate to figure out her parents. I also don't get why Fitz is so angry all the time, and the love triangle thing is clearly still going strong. That being said - as a reader it's very frustrating to read so many dramatic misunderstandings and constant angst.
