que libro de mierda

It was a quick read, but I found most of the characters very annoying and frustrating. Mr Malcolm was kind of the worst for most of this book, so his and Selina’s relationship never felt as real as I wanted it to. Julia was also insufferable, and I got very irritated that all anyone did was make fun of Cassie for seemingly no reason. I do hope the movie resolves some of the things that bothered me about the book.

Vrij oppervlakkig boek. Prima vermaak voor een regenachtige zondagmiddag, maar meer ook niet.

The author is a screenwriter rather than a novelist primarily. Here’s how I picture it: she watched the first season of Bridgerton, and saw it became a hit. She thought “I could jump on that bandwagon.“ Then she wrote this. I suppose it succeeds on some level, because it’s been made into a movie. But for a fan of historical and Regency fiction from way back, not so much.

She trots out a series of historical fiction tropes like she was making her way down a checklist. The dialogue is anachronistic, the historical details questionable. The hero is unlikable start to finish, and one of the secondary characters changes her personality so completely she’s barely recognizable by the end of the book. The heroine and her backup love interest are both enjoyable characters, but they don’t redeem the mishmash that is the rest of this book.

Usually I agree with goodreads stars, but I think this one is underrated on goodreads. It’s a clean, quick and easy Jane-Austen-style read. Mainly read it so I could watch the movie after. Predictable and lot’s of type characters but still a unique plot.

This was a fast, quick, fun read. Its basically mean girls in regency England. It was fast paced for a historical romance and I absolutely was hooked. I devoured it.

First half was meh.
Second half was okay.

I would like to watch the movie though.

Sweet and charming. Like pride and prejudice but not pride and prejudice.
