This gave Bridgerton meets John Tucker Mist Die vibes and those are two of my favorite things. While it definitely could have been longer and included more fun machinations, it was a quick read that was thoroughly entertaining. I cannot wait to see the movie.
2.5 stars rounded to 3.
Well, this is quite the whirlwind of a book. Plots move forward, characters change, and people fall in love in an intstant. It's more like a parody of a historical romance than an actual one.
The heroine in this is good and so is side character Henry (I was kind of rooting for them, tbh), but everyone else- including the hero, is a bit of a shit. I can't say I was invested in the romance as it is instalust and never developed beyond that.
Still, this is light and breezy and I read it in the blink of an eye. It'd be good for a commute read. I can't say it's good, but it's not bad. I have a feeling this will be one of the rare occasions where the movie will be better than the book.

Mr. Malcolm’s List was originally published in 2009, but is now being rereleased after the author (who is also a screenwriter) got a film deal. I had no idea about any of this going in, but I kept seeing old reviews and finally decided to do my research and figure out what was going on.
Meh. That’s how I felt while reading. Just meh. I wasn’t engaged and I didn’t really care a whole lot about any of the main protagonists. Or secondary characters for that matter. The storytelling is kind of basic and surface level, lots of telling and not showing. Not a whole lot of character development or deep, engrossing emotional feelings between the hero and heroine. I wasn’t particularly excited by the dialogue or setting either. So just meh for me.
I started reading, then moved to skimming, then jumped to the end to see how it ended.
Final grade- D

A quick fun little read. A bit lighter version of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. I probably wouldn't have picked it up if it had not been a selection from a book club. I am glad that I did read it and I enjoyed the story.
