“We were two people who shared one soul. We belonged to each other forever. No matter what. When I left him that soul was going to shatter. I was going to be irreparably broken.”

This book did not live up to the first one. It started well enough, but soon lost it's way.

Let's talk about what I did like:
-Addressing the fact that Jamie is/was NOT a superhero.
-Bringing resolution to the Mike situation.
-Taking a more atypical "love triangle" direction by not giving the third party actual power/a chance.

Now for what I didn't like:
-Too predictable in terms of who "Teddy" was gonna be.
-Too much underdeveloped drama.
-Jamie's overall characterization, including her sudden change into a crybaby.
-Lack of real genuine chemistry between Jamie and Ryan.
-Ryan's characterization going one dimensional.
-Rushed pacing.
-Justifications for Jamie's stupid actions being given one line excuses, such as "I just can't say no to him."
-Too many name droppings/product placement. Seriously, there should have been just a few. Instead, I felt like I was reading an ad, or some fanfiction where the author thinks it's cool to put star/product names in and over does it.

One thing I will say is Oram's writing does tend to be more on the "faced paced" side. However, the stories usually flow well. It feels more like she's getting right to things, cutting out all the excess baggage. This time around, instead of her writing feeling light, it felt rushed. Sometimes you need that extra stuff in there to have proper transitions, character development, etc.

I felt like I could hardly keep up with people. One second someone's pissed, the next they're crying, the next they're sympathetic, the next they're talking about something completely unrelated. And the writing tried justifying it by actually saying things like "he went from angry to sympathetic lightning fast". Like, that's NOT okay!

The drama wasn't handled well. If you're gonna put that stuff in there, you need to properly develop it. If it was properly developed, it wouldn't feel like it was taking up space. It'd feel essential. Right now it's detrimental cause it feels like padding. Actually, I'm not sure padding is the right word. I suppose it actually feels like it's being written by someone who finds it uncomfortable and who is trying to get it over with as soon as possible.

Overall, this book had potential, but it definitely needed more work to flush everything out. It felt like I was reading a first draft or something from a new author.

I'm hoping the time Oram spent on the 3rd addresses the issues this one brought about, or I know I will NOT be happy. I'm already irritated by the 'amnesia' story arc happening.

The first book is a very good set up for this book, that is much darker, more serious and and a nice escalation.

El Extraño Gato del Cuento

Editado: 16.10.2113
