60/70s psychedelic noir that’s hard to read through seeing as every character is In a drug induced conversation. Had a really hard time reading this in the beginning. It was hard to discern who was talking and what was going on. Switched to audiobook and it was a more pleasant reading experience. Loved all the zany characters and how everyone was interconnected in a giant case of lovers and lies.
Pynchon with a coherent-ish plot in a pitch perfect 60's SoCal. Super enjoyable if not mindblowing.

Those who call this Pynchon lite.. I get it, but it's just so enjoyable and fun with the same pastiche story telling technique that feels so true to life. It's a toss up between this and Vineland for me, hard not to be so soft on Prairie, but damn if the relationships between Doc and everyone in his life aren't so compelling, Shasta and Bigfoot of course.
Anyway, I read this on a rock climbing trip in a hammock during the hot part of the day between sessions and boy was it the perfect read for that

A trippy hippy detective story filled with lots of hilarious characters. Confusing at times - as any Pynchon novel is - but the vibes are certainly far out there.
