This book had me crying by the end. This book had a lot of humor and wit and also deals with problems that are relevant with kids today(divorces).
emotional
funny
I read this book in middle school and fell in love with it instantly. It became a favorite for years. I even made my brother (who hates reading) read it, and he loved it as well. It seems like it’s just a silly kids book but it’s so much more than that. I love the characters, the humor (I laugh so much when I read this book) and the emotional moments. It’s one special book.
Aand after three books that made me laugh outloud and cry in turns, I am quite the fan of jordan sonnenblick.
You wouldn't think that a book that opens with its hero getting arrested for drunk driving would be a comedy, but [author: Jordan Sonnenblick] manages exactly that in his second novel. Alex is sentenced to community service at a senior center where he meets Solomon Lewis. This book is serious and funny all at the same time, and it's a thoroughly enjoyable read for all ages.
i will forever recommend this to anyone. literally anyone.

If you're a sarcastic person who loves the make witty comments but isn't really that type of person, this book is the one for you! I love this book and I mean absolutely loved it. It's relative to everything and it's very inspiring and thought-provoking. Truly can change the way a person perceives someone or about something and totally change their view point. This book left me with many thoughts and all-in-all it's a great read!
Oh man, this was a good book. I have to say that it was a little predictable but still I enjoyed reading it. And I did tear up a little bit, but not during any of the book, it was in the letter the author wrote at the end. Sad stuff.
So, I stayed up until 2 a.m. to finish reading this book, and I didn't regret any minute of it. I love how this is heartwarming and humorous. The lesson that Alex learned really hit home and I haven't read any book like this in a while.
As punishment for a DUI, Alex is assigned 100 hours of community service in a nursing home. Solomon Lewis is cranky and mean, swearing at Alex in Yiddish and generally being a miserable human being. Almost by accident Sol and Alex find common ground and enter into a tentative truce, then friendship. Alex's relationship with Sol doesn't make up for the other relationships in their respective lives: Alex's parents are nearing the end of a bitter divorce; Sol is estranged from his daughter. Things are maybe heading in the right direction--all except for Sol's health.
Not as charming and warm as Sonnenblick's other books, but still enjoyable.
