This goes on the list as one of my all-time favorites. I actually cried tears at two different parts. Several audible gasps.

A big win for sapphic freaks with religious trauma (me).

Following my sister's recommendation, and still buzzing from Agustina Bazterrica's Tender is the Flesh, I eagerly picked up The Unworthy. And I certainly didn't regret it.

Though it started as a slow burn, once I was about halfway through, I couldn't put the book down. I became completely engrossed in the main character's journey. The book powerfully explores themes of climate change, extreme ideology, and blind obedience.

The Unworthy is a bittersweet experience. It brought me to tears twice, making me so emotional even as the story unfolded in a truly horrific world.

Much like Tender is the Flesh, this novel also delves into society's dehumanization of women. But it added a heartbreaking layer: it shows how women can turn against each other in a desperate fight for status, mirroring struggles we see in our world today.

Once again, Agustina Bazterrica proves her masterful ability to weave a mesmerizing plot within a starkly morbid setting.

Ehhhhhh…. I loved the world-building, I liked the prose, it was disturbing and evocative and moody. Unfortunately, some of the plot points felt shoehorned in for maximum discomfort and the ending felt rushed.
