This mystery thriller is a captivating read that kept me hooked from the very first page until the surprising conclusion. The narrative unfolds across two timelines – the present day and twelve months prior – effectively building suspense and driving Kirby's relentless pursuit of the truth behind her friend Esme's disappearance.
Kirby's determination to uncover the truth is the heart of the story. Her unwavering dedication fuels the plot, propelling her through a series of twists and turns. The friendship dynamics between the characters are well-developed and engaging, with witty banter adding a layer of realism and keeping the atmosphere lighthearted despite the underlying darkness of the mystery.
The mystery itself is cleverly constructed, with subtle clues woven throughout the narrative. Readers will need to pay close attention to these subtle hints to piece together the puzzle and anticipate the shocking revelations. The author masterfully maintains suspense, leaving readers guessing until the very end.

everyone in the group chat dies is a thriller novel following our main character kirby as she receives a mysterious text message in the group chat from someone who died a year ago. this book started really slow with an unlikeable fmc but picked up once we started getting flash forwards to new bodies dropping in present day.

i enjoyed the style of writing through text messages but really struggled at the beginning when nothing was really happening with esme's investigation. i think because i didn't believe kirby as a narrator, the gravity of the situation didn't really bother me. 3.75/5 stars.

Kirby is sharing a flat with some other «dead beats», when a new girl joins, Esme. She quickly disappears and Kirby grows worried and tries to find the truth, believing that Esme has been snatched by a spree killer from 30 years back. He’s supposed to have died, but what if he didn’t?

Move forward 12 months and there’s a new message in the old group chat from the flat mates. Supposedly from Esme, who is definitely dead. The message is sinister: «everyone in the group chat dies». And they do. Kirby is trying to gather the groups before it’s too late.

I suspected the deal with Esme from the start, but not who the Crowhurst murderer really was. It’s pretty decent, but overly long with excessive dialogue.

I thought the concept of this was intriguing and overall, I did enjoy it. There were a few times where the story got a little over the top but all in all it was a quick paced and easy read. It kept my attention, and I was really interested in the mystery and murders. The ending wasn't my favorite, and I was left a bit unsatisfied, maybe if it had been another chapter or two, I would have liked it more. The thing that annoyed me most is if there is a killer within your group chat, why are you still messaging asking to meet the others and their whereabouts. Why are we not texting each other individually???  I think it got a bit silly at times, but it was funny with some dark humor and poked fun at chronically online culture, specifically the crime side of it.

juvenile writing & the suspense didn’t pick up until 75% in. if this was more horror than comedy it would have been good.

Fiction about some flatmates who get involved in a social media investigation of a murder that happened 30 years ago. A promising start but felt the ending was a bit ridiculous. Also found the narration really funny at times, but the social media lingo/references got a bit annoying
