Cross Bones

Well, definitely not my favorite installment - 2 1/2 stars, rounded to 3. Tempe was extra dense and shallow in this one and I found it reallllly grating. (Fat shaming, talked bad about people's teeth, and per usual - put herself knowingly in danger when there were better options.) She just seemed extra arrogant in this one and it bugged me.

The storyline was pretty dry and too up-down-up-down, all over the place. Religion versus science, too many characters to keep straight, etc.

I'm really hoping Break No Bones sucks me back in. I don't want to lose interest in these characters. Sigh...

Strong religious themes that bored me.

If half stars were a thing (sigh!!) I'd give this a 3.5. Good but not her best - glad I stagger the volumes in this series with other reads or I think I'd be really disappointed. Lots of details that never developed into real leads (red herrings, I suppose) but just made everything feel a bit clunky - but hey, would I do any better, gosh no! Will I read the next - heck yeah! Just not right away.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The premise was interesting. However, you can very much tell what was going on in the world when it was written based on some of the stereotypes that were used.
I'm not a big fan or believer in conspiracy theories and this book was full of them. Bones that could potentially invalidate the story of the Resurrection is interesting, but the different books that have the different theories that are so disparate were too many conspiracies when coupled with the story being set at Masada. Listening to this 19 years after it was written, after the troops have been pulled out of Afghanistan but the genocide in Gaza being in full swing, it seems like this book was trying too hard to be controversial. But, that's looking at this in 2024, not when it was written in 2005. I like history and support the idea of finding and sharing the truth, so the idea that someone found the bones of Jesus is interesting. Again, it was an interesting premise; it just fell flat 19 years later. Also, Temperance is yet again in trouble because she acts without thinking. It's getting a little irritating. She is in her 40s. She should know better by now.
I think I would have liked this more if I had read it when it originally came our, or in the early 2000s time period. But, I will give this series another chance and hope that the stereotyping gets reducing in future books.
Also, there was an inconsistency in this book. The bird. She said Andrew got it in a raid. But that's not what happened. They got it from the sister of the woman who was killed in the previous book because neither she nor her daughter could or wanted to take care of it. That was irritating. </spoiler.

This was rough. I tried reading this book 2.5 years ago but never finished. I really wanted to continue with the series so I decided to make myself get through. It was a challenge. I'm not sure why exactly but this was definitely the weakest book in the series so far. There was no development to the overall story or characters, this easily could've been a standalone. The pacing was painfully slow, nothing really happened until 75% into the book and it felt like a lot of unnecessary info had been thrown at us for no real reason. I will continue on with the series but I think I'll be taking a lengthy break before getting back into it.

I'm a fan of Kathy Reichs and have read quite a few of her books, but this one was just boring. It was slow and not a whole lot happened in it and I found the religious angle incredibly tedious to listen to. Ended up skipping the last 15% and listening to just the last few minutes of the audio.

Biblical stuff not my scene - didn’t enjoy this one

It have more history than science which is tough for me but still an interesting plot. (Thanks Mollie for renting it for my from your library bc my library is a hoe and decided to get rid of this one)
