A fascinating and entertaining exploration of baseball and the arm by one of the sport's best writers. A wonderful audiobook performance as well. Altogether a truly excellent read.

After reading this book I now have a better understanding of the Tommy John procedure as well as the long road of recovery a pitcher must face.

The stories in the book also support what most of us know, year round single-sport playing does not do a child good. I loved the author's criticism of the "elite youth baseball programs".

As an added bonus, I will definitely be rooting for Daniel Hudson the next time I watch him pitch!

A fascinating look at the epidemic of elbow injuries that currently plagues MLB. Passan followed Daniel Hudson and Todd Coffey as they attempted to come back from second Tommy John surgeries, and talks with so called arm gurus along the way. Coffey is the classic example of the athlete who doesn't know when it's time to walk away, but I never felt bad for him because he comes off as completely unlikable. Hudson on the other hand is a much more sympathetic as you follow his struggles to make it back. The short section on Trevor Bauer towards the end did nothing but amplify my love for him, he is so weird, but in the best way possible.

Solid stories, but I never got much payoff. It's probably that there's no answers to the questions posed, which I get, but still left me feeling like there was a lack of cohesion for the entire book.
