I really enjoyed reading this book. Even though the idea of drawing runes isn’t exactly a unique magic system, it feels unique in the way its present here, paired with heartglass, which is essentially a little looking glass into one’s soul.
The storyline is also told in two simultaneous storylines, but one of them is more like little snippets that give hints of where the main storyline is going. But it is still a linear storyline of its own set in the future.
Even though I enjoyed this book a lot and would recommend it, I wasn’t convinced I would be reaching for the second one right away (which might say more about my current state of mind and mental health than the actual book, to be fair) but it was the ending of the second storyline (the snippet one) that actually really intrigued me.
I probably will be completing this series, if not straight away, but I do think book one is worth the read at least.

beautifully written, slowly paced but with enough to keep me curious throughout the story. I was rather surprised at all the negative reviews. the world building is fascinating and I learned so much about it through the experiences of the characters, it never felt forced. I was just along for the journey. excited to listen to the other books and see what happens!
people always say they love a slow burn- but a true slow burn is multiple books in, with loads of lore and content to build up. I was a bit excited at the relationships moving slowly, I’ve read many books recently where they jump right in.

All the elements of this book could have created something really great. I started and stopped a few times because it was just so boring. I kept waiting for something to happen and the overly descriptive writing, while pretty, didn’t help the already slow pace.

My main complaint with this book is that it ends so abruptly. I know it’s a trilogy series, but I really expected some more closure than what we got. If feels unfinished.
