I honestly didn’t think the story in itself is bad, the writing is decent and it was engaging for the most part. However, I did kind of think it was dumb that these women with Magic spent most of their time at parties and learning to dance rather then something a bit more interesting and useful, what a colossal waste of magic and there really isn’t a need for the foreshadowing snippets with the reporter/bard- they didn’t add anything to the story and in fact became a bit confusing there at the end when Tea raises her “one true love” back from the dead and it was someone totally out of left field instead of the boy she spent the whole book liking. So much so that I read it as Kance rather than Kalen and didn’t realize my mistake until I read my friend’s review pointing out the fact and had to go back and check! That was a dumb twist the author didn’t even hint at in the previous 400 pages. Part of me doesn’t even want to read the rest of the trilogy honestly…

This was my first audio book listen and felt lucky enjoying this lot for my first try in this format. Listening to the audio version made it much easier to invest myself in the story, narrated by a female and male played the characters well. Especially the female narrator voicing Tea's perspective through the story. I love stories told through a characters perspective makes it easier for me to feel invested and Bone witch audiobook did this well.

As for the story itself this was incredibly fascinating tale and such detail the author put into the world building down to the different clothing people wore. it's been so long since reading something witchy and this series delivered beyond. This is dark, gritty tale about revenge and embracing your inner desires, I was all for it over here. If you love witch anything this is one to read !!

You go through two prospectives you see Tea in what is supposed to be her present self through the eyes of a young man, and you get to know Tea through the story she tells him of her life. It's very detailed and honestly a light read if you don't want something overly complex. You get the entire history and working of the Asha, of the Willows they must inhabit, and the other kinds of hearts you get to learn about as well. It has folklore and tradition woven throughout it. The characters are interesting especially the bond between Fox, her brother, and Tea herself. The story tells of something happening but it has yet to fully unravel the story of what went so wrong. Which is what will keep me. It's definitely something you can sink an hour or two in and get lost in the quick pace of the world. Especially when you get into the Asha-ka which are the estate houses that the Asha live in, and their headmistresses all have a bit of spite to them.

Reading this book was like eating potato chips...I did not want to out it down. I really enjoyed the setting and the characters.  And for a book about necromancy I found it really light hearted and fun. It's not life changing but it's a fun, enjoyable read.

Reminds me of I'd the Grishaverse and Apothycary Diaries had a baby.
