I adored this movie, mostly due to my borders on obsessional love of Jason Statham's abs, but I never realized this was based on a book. I decided I had to read the book, and I'm glad I did. The movie was just enough different from the book that I was able to enjoy both of them as separate entities. I liked the bit of Paleontology in the book about the Megalodon. It probably says something about my personality that I still enjoy learning about dinosaurs, but much like a young child. I don't want to learn too much because I still want to enjoy Jurassic Park, both the movie and the books. This story embraced that desire, just enough info to help me enjoy the adventure aspects of the book.

LOVE that he crawled around inside the meg and severed its heart with a tooth fossil. That whipped. The rest is whatever.

Erika from the Perks of Books recommended this book....
and it was fun. Silly and ridiculous but fun.
It's somewhat like an epic B movie about a gigantic killer shark, if that sounds fun to you then give it a go.

The deep sea science and megalodon science were pretty interesting. But... I think I will like the movie better and plan to watch it. ;-) Feels like this was written for the movies anyway.

I decided to read this on a long trip and I am glad I picked it up.
The first few pages immediately sucked me in, and introduces the reader to the Megaladon. I watched the movie years before I read this book so I had an idea of the plot beforehand. The movie is an insult to this book. I thought the descriptions of the Meg were great, the action scenes were well described.
Sometimes the description of the boats and subs were a bit confusing to visualize. If I hadn't seen the movie I don't think I could visualize it well. I don't think the Megs patterns and behavior were ever overexplained, the pattern was explained in the context of the situation. The book has a balance of likeable and unlikable characters that either make you rage or happy. I would recommend

I had enjoyed the movie a lot, even with some of its flaws. Hoo boy. The book is infinitely better. I was on the edge of my seat reading this. It reminded me a little of reading the Jurassic Park book given the combination of science and suspense. There are some rather gruesome deaths in the book. The characters are very different from their movie counterparts. The plot is insanely different as well. Now having read the book, I wish they would have followed the book's plot. I think I am going to have to get my hands on the rest of the series.
