This book is awful. The title page should have been a litany of trigger warnings. It is a trauma dump that no one asked for. I picked this up on a whim at the library. I should have DNF’d 20 different times. I will likely never return to this author if this is her “style.”

Read The Four if you loved these books:
1. One of Us is Lying, Karen M. McManus
2. The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks, E. Lockhart

Set in an English boarding school following 4 new scholarship students who enter the school at 16. This book follows the students as they become good friends and try to navigate the new, toxic, social climate they find themselves in.

The plot was fast paced and exciting, with a lot of shocking moments I wasn't expecting. The found friendship was heartwarming and I felt for all of the 4 main characters, although some parts were slightly unrealistic.

Check the TWs.

The description of this book had me interested. I was ready to go into the dark academia world but I really struggled to connect to this book. Being a 90's HS girl I wanted to connect to someone in this book and I just couldn't, that being said I do think this would work best for someone currently in HS or fresh out of it. The writing is well done in describing locations and situations and I think there is definitely an audience that will connect to this book.

** Thank you NetGalley, Kellie Keel and William Morrow Books for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. **

This was a lot darker than I expected. Each character has different struggles and experiences which have been well thought out. If you're after a thriller that has 13 reasons why vibes I'd recommend this one. It is classed as dark academia but I wouldn't think this would be suitable for anybody below 16

Thank you to HarperCollins for the PR Box for this book, all comments and opinions are my own

So many thoughts! I couldn’t stop reading, page after page brought new twists and turns and layers to the plot. Seeing the different relationships develop through this book was amazing, as well as watching the story evolve. I felt for all of the characters, I cried and smiled and screamed. Really recommend.
