Read this one for book club. I think I’d give it 2.5 stars if I could, but that would be generous. Overall, I don’t think McKinty’s writing is as good as other thriller authors I enjoy.
All the philosophy references felt shoehorned in, the second half was all over the place, and it was obvious Rachel was written from a male perspective. The end of both parts were particularly eye roll for me.
Meh.

While the premise seems super interesting and definitely hooks the reader, the believability was lacking. It felt like there was no planning behind it. They came up with a concept and ran with it.
The first half was okay. Some parts that, again, didn’t feel believable..(Who is actually posting minute by minute on their Facebook page?) But, it was entertaining.
The second half lost me. It felt rushed and very poorly executed. 3.25 for being somewhat entertaining, and I did finish it.

In all honesty, this probably deserves a 3.5. It's a fast-paced thriller with a wonderfully unsettling plot, which deserves a round of applause. I immediately wanted to pose the conflict to all of my friends who are mothers and ask, "What would you do???" However, at times, the characters' actions were so unrealistic it was mildly painful and the dialogue felt awkward. Regardless, it kept me flipping pages until the very, which is exactly what I was looking for.
