Almost for pure nostalgia, this book gets a high rating. The love story of Anne & Gilbert is one of my all time favourites, and this book made me feel very fortunate to have found a friendship-turned-love of my very own.

My absolute fave book in the series! The girls’ adventures at Redmond take me back to uni - and I just want to hang out at Patty’s Place and chat with Anne, Phil, Priscilla, Stella and Aunt Jimsie 😍

Every time I read this I do so with a big, stupid smile over my face, punctuated by audible gasps of happiness. 5 stars forever and ever.

“”Harvest is end and summer is gone,” quoted Anne Shirley, gazing across the shorn fields dreamily.”

This book really spoke to me. It's the most melancholy/reflective of the series so far, as Anne comes into adulthood and comes to terms with some of the hard things in life, including the realization of death's inevitability, feeling left behind by others, and trying to decide how to fulfill one's life/find one's purpose. Montgomery was able to capture the feeling of bittersweet nostalgia young adults feel as their lives change and they can never go back to how things once were.

The thing that I love most about the Anne series is that, while it is lovely and cheerful and ideal in some ways, there is a deeper undercurrent throughout. Anne and her loved ones experience sorrow, love, disappointment, relief... I don't feel that Anne is ever trite. Instead, Montgomery's clear understanding of pain makes the book a "balm" for people who are going through difficult times themselves--or at least it was that for me.

Anne of the Island by Lucy Maud Montgomery was the loveliest read to finish this year.

I have never read any of the Anne of Green Gables books, though when I was a child, my sister loved them. There is a youtuber named "Dish" who recommended the book because it was a top 5 book for her. I was in a Half-Price bookstore when I found this book at eye level for $1.49 and figured it was meant to be.

I'm sure there are plenty of other reviews to give a description of the book so I will keep mine short and finish by saying that this book will remain on my shelf and I will look at it fondly for sure.

4.5 stars

in summation: AWWWWWW!!!!
