Uhh, how I love a good Anne novel.
While many new characters get introduced in this book, my personal highlight next to the beginning slow burn romance arc is little Davy.
I think Davy's character really begins to shine in the charming letters he writes Anne while she is off at college. His catch phrase "I want to know." is just adorable.

after everything that has happened on Anne’s journey, I feel like she’s gone through the most and learned the most in this book. Montgomery’s vivid descriptions paint the scenes and set the tone of Anne’s life. I’m so utterly speechless. I wish I could read it again for the first time.
Not as good as the first in the series, but leaps and bounds better than the second.
Finally, our beloved Gilbert Blythe gets to shine =D

I am rather confused as to what I should rate this. I loved it, though not as much as I remembered. There was a point in reading when I put the book down and viciously attacked my typewriter, typing a few thoughts on what annoys me most about the Anne books (the over -romanticism). But after that, I returned to the book and had no other reasons for complaint and was not even sure what made me react so vehemently earlier. Maybe I just needed to get it out of my system.
I'll give this 4.5 stars and round down.

A jolly delightful jamboree with chums.
Wholesome, saccharine, mildly whimsical. All you want from a good LMM book.
Obviously dated by now, but still not hopelessly sexist (plenty of happy, non-pitied spinsters! And yay women getting BAs!) Minus points for the animal cruelty (I know it was a different time but I had to skim it anyways). Davy is still a brat but he’s blessedly less important now and there’s less Dora bashing.

Anne of the Island is one of my favorites of the series. It's in this book that Anne heads off to Redmond college -- discovering herself and finding a way to balance her romantic notions with the real world around her. Anne and her circle of friends truly grow up in this novel -- finding their future careers and husbands. Anne retains the spunk of the earlier novels but has mellowed a bit with age, so she remains an interesting heroine.
