Hidden Seams is a quick read that will leave you bored and unsatisfied.
I’ve never been a fan of enemies to lovers stories because they haven’t been able to convince me of the transition from such extreme statuses. Unfortunately, Hidden Seams is no exception.
What attracted me to Hidden Seams in the first place was the setting. The story is set in the fashion industry, as the main character, Marco, is about to inherit the keys to the kingdom that he’s been promised. Meanwhile, Avery is on the hunt for her biological father and this hunt leads her to an unlikely source. I’ve never read anything set in the fashion industry, so I was excited to experience it through Torre’s perception. Torre did such a stellar job researching and communicating the cam girl life in her novel Do Not Disturb that I thought I was about to experience that same understanding but set in the fashion industry. Unfortunately, the setting is simply a backdrop to what little story is here.
The chemistry between the characters is explosive in the beginning, but quickly fizzles out and is not all that believable. The entire story of Hidden Seams takes place over a few days and by the end of the novel the characters are head over heals for each other. It’s instalove at its worse.
Marco as a character is a cardboard cutout of any standard alpha male character packaged in a setting you wouldn’t usually find him in. Despite his choice to pretend to be gay, the reader never really gets to know what motivates him other than sex. He’s interchangeable with every other attempt at an alpha male character.
Avery, on the other hand, is an interesting protagonist as she wrestles with her current situation and her need to discover the truth about her parentage. I enjoyed reading her perspective and her witty comments, however at times she fell flat.
Overall, Hidden Seams was a disappointment and has finally convinced me that Torre’s book may not be for me.

Alessandra Torre is a go-to 1 click author for me and this book was no exception I loved it every single word.
Imagine if you will, somebody saying to you, I will give you millions, no, billions of dollars would you want it? Of course you would you are not a fool!
What do I need to do would be your question?
"Well you need to be seen with me in public and you need to be seen with me in magazines, oh, and you need to be seen with me on the TV and any public appearances that I do."
"Brilliant what's the catch?"
"No catch really, you will be treated like a king, wined and dined at all of the most famous & expensive restaurants, dressed to the 9s in beautiful fantastic clothes .........oh but you do have to pretend to be gay, like forever!"
For a chance of a billion dollars this is Marcos life.
Avery lives in Detroit she is what you would call a small time crook, she is known and is friendly with some very bad people, however she is not bad herself she's only trying to help others.
Avery was adopted when she was a very small child and eventually moved away from her adoptive parents.
The only thing she has of her father is an old worn photograph, imagine her surprise when she sees her father on the TV when she is in a local bar!
Avery decides to go and find him and here is where the story begins.
Sparks Fly and Seams Rip with this little cracker of a book go buy it!

Fab!! One thing though... Is it just me or it did happen, but I felt that the end was a bit rushed.

Torre writes in multiple genres and I thought this was one of her quick, hot contemporary romances and it was, but with unusual circumstances and characterisation that set it apart a little from her others in this genre. As a result of this twist on circumstances, I enjoyed this more than I expected, especially the first 70% of the book.
HIDDEN SEAMS explores family separated, searching and found alongside a connection that just shouldn’t ‘be’. Marco is an impossibly beautiful man and therefore untouchable. He was arrogant and superior with little to recommend him on the surface. Yet, he drew me in, there was more to find out about him.
“That strong voice, the deep growl in the tones....it is the sort of voice you could drizzle over ice cream and binge on for hours.”
Avery was a semi-criminal and creative entrepreneur with an ethic at the centre. She had buckets of energy and determination that I couldn’t do anything but like her. She weakened in her resolve as the book progressed towards its end, but I do acknowledge how attraction and connection can weaken anyone’s purpose and path.
The story was again unusual which moves this book from just a good, easy read into something better. Alessandra Torre has such a talent for turning your preconceptions on their head. The heat was well written as ever and didn’t overwhelm the story, only complimented it. The last 30% of the story was a little weaker and convenient but I still enjoyed this overall.
This book is a complete standalone and not connected to Love in Lingerie as both the title and cover might suggest, so you can just jump into this engaging read.
I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

Alessandra Torre never fails to amaze me. I love her style of writing. This was another hit for Alessandra Torre. It was beautiful. I loved it. All the details and emotions, I felt like I was with them.
“and there is a moment when I wonder how I’ve lived without her.”
Marco was amazing. I loved this man. A lot. I could feel his vibe through the pages. Even his sexiness and all. Everything he did , his happiness and guilt were very touching. I liked the way he treated Avery. He spoke his feelings out loud and then thought of the consequences.
“A man like this could destroy my heart. A man like this will make every other man, every other kiss, and every other love, seem weak in comparison.”
Avery was wild. I loved this about her. She could fit in any shoes she liked. She was flexiable and it was amazing. I loved her kindness and that she only wanted the truth for her sake. I really loved her and could easily connect with her.
The sexy cover was definitely a bonus. One of my favourite covers ever.
“I hold my breath and open my eyes, taking a moment in the stillness of the water to admire the muted and blurry image of them, his laugh, her giggle, the closeness and connection they share. I swim around them and come up for air beside them, and right before I break the surface, it feels like the seams in my heart will rip.”
Fashion is not for anyone. Marco was the man for this job. Avery ruined all his plans so he ripped all of her hidden heart seams in return.

Alessandra Torre has a knack for writing interesting and complicated characters. You can't help but want to keep reading to see how they will get together and fall in love. No matter how contentious their relationship is at the start you know they are going to find a way to come together in the end.
The journey from frenemies to lovers is worth the trip.

Enemies-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes and I was totally hooked by Hidden Seams' premise. The characters are intriguing: Marco's lived the last decade in a partnership-of-convenience as a gay man and Avery launders money in Detroit. She comes to New York to (sort of) make a claim on Marco's now deceased partner's estate.
The attraction between Marco and Avery is instant, before she even reveals herself. With a billion dollar fashion empire on the line, the moment Marco discovers who she is and why she’s in New York, he goes into overdrive to protect his inheritance. But it doesn’t last long. These two can’t stay away from each other and every encounter in Hidden Seams is hotter than the last. Eyebrow-singeing hot.
I just wish Hidden Seams would have allowed these two to pursue their insta-lust as two consenting adults, instead of diving headfirst into conventional notions and insta-love. Still, Alessandra Torre's writing is imminently readable and Hidden Seams is a book you can devour in one (or two) sittings. Fans of the happily ever after will be totally satisfied.
