5 stars = enjoyed, would look for other books by author, would recommend

The images are perfect at communicating the feelings of the crew. We went back to search the backgrounds for the giant Arctic squid!

Why does this book feel like a Wes Anderson movie? And how many times can you say "giant arctic jellyfish" in a mere 32 page picture book? These are just a couple of the questions I came away with from reading this book.

The illustrations are gorgeous but the story is strange. Was Dr. Morley a real person? Did anyone find the elusive jellyfish? The story has too many unanswered questions for young readers.

Absolutely charming picture book, filled with delightful details - the more you look, the more you find!
Dr Morley is on a quest to find the eponymous animal, so she and her crew set off on their voyage on a ship packed with scientific equipment.
No matter how hard they search, no matter how thrilled their are by encounters with narwhals, beluga, orcas, they are still disappointed by their failure to find the elusive jellyfish. But could it be that what they are looking for, has been looking at them...
Perfect, beautiful, engaging with a melancholic feel.

Lovely illustrations, okay story-telling that could have been great. I can’t help but wish glimpses of the jellyfish could be found on each page. There is nothing more fun than allowing children to feel superior to the characters in a book.
