A book that has the same slow-burn, great payoff feel of the first film without copying the formula of the movies, making it feel completely new and refreshing!!
Do you like Alien? Do you like medieval societies and aesthetic? Then you’ve found the right book! I ate this book UP. Gnawed on the cover. Chewed on the paper. I took the day to sit down and read from page 174 to the end because I just. Couldn’t. Wait.
The characters, the world-building— all amazing. I really loved how Scott made every important character share in the limelight, each with their own strengths and faults, and all lovable despite their shortcomings. The ending made me a bit of a wreck. Just…… chef’s kiss.

This book was a cliche YA fantasy that used xenomorphs as monsters when any monster would have worked. Every character was a 2D stereotype, and the story followed predictable fantasy formula with nothing new or interesting to add.
Young, attractive, likeable, oddly good at everything teenage girl decides to fight back against overwhelmingly misogynistic society and leadership that puts young people in harms was. She's joined by friends, popular jock (who happens to be the biggest and strongest in the land) and weak nerd who lacks social skills (who happens to be the smartest in the land). Together they save the day, and she proves that girls can be tough.
Honestly, as a woman I was really annoyed by the constant barrage of misogyny. The author made it really clear early on that she lived in a misogynistic culture, but still continued to bring it up over and over like the reader might have missed it. If I wanted that, I'd just go to YouTube. I love the Alien franchise because they feature strong women who are believable. Their sole motivation isn't just to prove that they're strong, they simply are strong. People can believe that or not, either way they're going to kick some ass. This lead lady was so distracted by what men thought of her that I'm pretty sure that took up nearly half the story.
The only part that was actually joined to the Alien universe didn't even make sense. It was an incredibly small part of the story, and would've been better if it were just removed.
Don't even get me started on the plot armor the characters had it the several deus ex machina scenes.
That's not even everything I disliked about it. The authors continues use of describing characters as fat and disgusting was weird and annoying, to say the least. Maybe I was already annoyed but I found it odd how often the xenomorphs (called demons) were described as black. At first I thought it was just a description, but it was so often that it also felt weird.
I kept hoping it would get better, hoping it would make sense. I was determined to like this book but I just couldn't.
