This book was well-written, poignant, made me cry, made me laugh, made me self-reflect, and I could not put it down. I can't wait to read more from Kimberley Freeman!
I loved this book, hard to put down once I started. It's a long book, but I didnt want the story to end when I reached the last page. Highly recommend.

Probably more of a 3.5 rating for me. I loved Beattie's story but felt Emma's story was a little flat. I wish it had been a little more fleshed out. I felt she rushed Emma's story, especially at the end of the book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from cover to cover. It was great to read a story regarding a courageous and determined female protagonist. Beattie endured many heartbreaking and devastating circumstances but found the strength to rise above it all despite the adversities and rejection she was confronted with. The past and present are beautifully interwoven and connected between the two generations. I finished reading it a week ago but I am still lost in her world.
I read this for my book club, not usually the kind of thing I would pick out for myself. It was pretty good, engrossing enough for me to read about 75% of it in one sitting, and there were a few tears. But it also had weird tangents that didn't pan out and ended in a strange place. I found some aspects of the plot deeply unfulfilling--likely intentional by the author, but not something I necessarily enjoy. There was also a heavy focus on the parental relationship and having children, not something that is very interesting to me. But it was well written, several of the characters were well-developed, and it was an enjoyable read that I am still thinking about after finishing.
