Well it has been a year since we last visited the Nine Realms and as soon as I started reading Crown of Chaos it was like I’d never left. I don’t know what it is about Amelia’s writing but I immediately felt pulled in and had the same feelings I did when I’d read the other three LOT9R books that just pulled me in and hooked me. I don’t know why a war ridden, dark witch & beast infested series is a comforting place for me to be but I’m not complaining. It felt like home and it felt right.
Immediately things stated going wrong. Our girl Aria could not catch a break throughout this book, much like this series as a whole. But as always she’s strong, holds her head up high and the betrayal makes her stronger than she was before.
This book was everything. So many questions from Ruins were answered but then we were left with SO MANY more! We see a complete different side to Knox than we ever have before and idk if I have some ptsd from the first three books but I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop idk if
I trust it yet.
Yes, we finally find out who/what Knox and Aria are. We see a different side to their romantic relationship, so there’s some resolution there. I’m interested to see where this goes in Queen of Chaos. Still hoping Knox and Aria are endgame and if that’s the case, I cannot wait to see the power couple they will become.
Screw the elemental future walk in this book, nope. Man, I really like those future walks and trying to interpret them but oh my gosh this one was the absolute worst of all three elemental looks so far. Hated it with a vengeance.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Listen, I am obsessed with this series. The series isn't "good" in a traditional sense, and it isn't even "so-bad-that-it's-good", either. The writing isn't even all THAT strong. But for some reason, these characters and this world has me in an absolute chokehold, and I am fighting for my life. I cannot get enough, and I VERY impatiently waited for this fourth book to be released.
Obviously, I ate this book up. But here's the thing, it is not my favorite in the series. There isn't much happening in the story that actually moves the plot forward. I think this book is more about character development than anything else, so it is kinda boring, at least for this series' standards. Something traumatic happens to Aria and Knox as a couple, and despite being on opposite sides of the war, this event brings them closer together. Several people are outted as traitors, which impacts how the MC's reformulate their war strategies and what goes on in their inner monologue. All the events center around character development, not plot development. By the time you're done with the book, you don't feel like MUCH has changed in the big scope of things, especially nothing major.
Also, there is only ONE REAL SPICY SCENE and I feel like after having three entire lengthy books that were over stuffed with the spice, this fact alone leaves you wanting more. We are used to Knox and aria holed up in a room for actual weeks, just going at it. Let's be real, the spice is 80% of why the characters work, and why the series works. So to jump from that level of spice to ...... this, it leaves you with blue balls quite frankly. Sure, it's nice that Knox and Aria are more of a solid couple and not literally abusive to each other, BUT YOU GOTTA GIVE ME THE GOODS. YOU CAN'T GATEKEEP WHAT YOU'VE ALREADY GIVEN ME BEFORE. It isn't right.
Overall, not my favorite book in this series, but I still love the world and characters. I am holding out for the next one to be better. I just KNOW that some shit is going to pop off in the next one, and that Knox an aria are going to find time to copulate for weeks again.

This was unbearably repetitive. Not like a “summarize the first three books” way, but a “I have read this same passage 7 different ways” way. So much chasing, demolishing keeps, “I don’t need anyone,” “you are my mate/ you are mine” that I don’t even know if anything new happened. Too similar to book 3 and I barely remember that one. 783 pages is way too much especially since barely anything new/of substance happened. Went from 0 to 100 multiple times that I think I got whiplash. Also there’s still like 3 MORE books. I’m calling it quits. I kept going to see how Knox and Aria handled their relationship and they barely got to the handling part by the end of this. The high fantasy, repetitiveness, 750+pgs of this isn’t worth it.
Dialogue is cringey and out of nowhere. What spice there is in this book is intense and dark. Went back and forth on if I liked Aria and Knox and who I was rooting for.
18+ Check content warnings.

Crown of of Chaos - Legacy of the Nine Realms #4 - Review
Couple: Aria Hecate & Knox Karnavious
Author: Amelia Hutchins
Tropes: enemy to lover, smut, king alphahole, hidden plots, high fantasy, beast/monster romance, magic, PNR
Review: The war has begun!! This is book 4 in Aria and Knox’s tumultuous love story and it amps up the heat A LOT. This book is not for the weak at heart and deals with themes of child loss, death, trauma and abuse. I would recommend having tissues handy if you choose to read!
This book was everything I wanted and more! In this book we finally get to see how Aria has been breaking all the curses Hecate placed on the other realms and their creatures. This book was also the turning point for Aria and her blindly loving and following Knox. She becomes the TRUE queen in this book and begins to fight back along with her inner monster Ember. I loved seeing the change in her character in this book and the astounding resilience she showed after the trauma and loss she sustains early on in this book. Amelia did an amazing job with developing Aria’s character in this book and her growing maturity with herself and her family.
While the book is not as spicy as prior books in the series it does have some heat and the heat there is explosive. I enjoyed how this book focused more on Aria finding herself and what her place in the 9 Realms will be. I also really liked how this was the first book where Knox truly looked at his actions and investigated his feelings for Aria and why he was so adverse to her at the beginning.
The dichotomy of Lennox and Knox in this book was ironic since we finally get to experience Ember and Lennox together and explore the difference between monster and man. I liked how it was the last straw that pushed Knox into being repentant.
This fourth installment is full of Aria’s adventures and we finally get to see her and Hecate go head to head. I think I was surprised with just how strong Aria truly is…and finally learning who her father is began to make a lot of sense with who her character is. I immensely enjoyed how this book is the one where she finally cuts ties to Aurora and her sisters. The aspect of found family versus blood family is major in this book and I am curious how the sisters will progress in the remaining books.
I’m hoping Aurora is taken care of in the next book and am looking forward to how Aria tackles her father, Aiden and the Fire Kingdom.
Rating: 100/10, YAS KNOX!!!
