I think I cried through at least half of this book, in the best way.

I loved everything about this book. Every character was written to perfection. The heartbreaking moments were so visceral and palpable. The conversations and banter and arguments were so real and realistic and the author didn't shy away from letting his characters sit in their grief and anger and rage.

It is not easy to tell a story set over ten years and grow with the characters from children to men and have those characters age and grow and develop so seamlessly and believably.

Yeah. I'll be gushing about this one for a while.

1/10 (Audiobook)
What the fuck was that.
Ok so I admittedly only made it to chapter 15 but I don’t think I can even continue this book.
“I’m not only 17” bro idc if he’s a werewolf or traumatised he’s still 17- why did the author make the age gap so large in the first place!? 10 & 16 to 17 & 23 IS FUCKING INSANE. Like 14 & 16 or 13 & 15 would have solved most my problems with this book.
It’s also painfully fucking slow omg, basically nothing has happened and the main character is so fucking boring to see. All he says is “I am pack” “we are pack” and that’s it like lil bro I fucking get it, now do something interesting.
The author claims he wants positive queer representation, yet essentially made the main character a pedophile/groomer.

On notes about the performance itself, it was so flat. During a big ass moment when the mc is yelling out to save someone he legit sounds like this •_• AND ITS THE ENTIRE TIME. Also even when the ML grows up he still sounds and acts like a fucking child, they don’t even age his voice up.

I was so disappointed when I was recommended this after Dark Rise.

My fourth book by this author — easy to read, enjoyable, and sometimes emotional.

Fun and binge-able. The prose was beautiful, sometimes lapsing into melodramatic, but for the most part I was able to buy into said melodrama. It can be fun :) I did enjoy the relationships and "pack" dynamics, but in the context of the romance (i.e. the sex scenes), some of the wolfish references disrupted my reading flow and took me out of the moment - but that's just personal preference. All things considered, I read this book in 24 hours and deeply enjoyed it!

DID NOT FINISH

This book made me pretty uncomfortable. The pack dynamic was so rough, they guilted and groomed the main character into
joining their pack when he didn’t even know they were werewolves. Even Ox’s mom thought they “had a weird fascination with him” and asked if they were “some weird cult”
. I read it a while ago at this point so I’m trying hard to remember the details but failing. Also, the age gap started out rough (10 and 16) and ended rough (17 and 23). It felt like the adults were pushing one child to become codependent to another even smaller child. Icky.
