everything TJ Klune writes is so heartbreakingly beautiful. the books always feel like you’ve made new friends who have become family. you hate to leave them when the book ends, but you know their stories will stay with you. and this silly, strong and brave queer werewolves will definitely stay with me.

Este libro lo leí por navidades, en una época en la que no estaba especialmente bien, y creo qu esa es una de las razones por la que tanto disfrute este libro.
La historia va sobre Ox, un chico humano el cual ha vivido criticas y dolor en su vida, que conoce a Joe, un integrante de una familia de enfrente de su casa. Al principio se nos presenta como una familia común con sus costumbres únicas (como todas), pero a lo largo de la historia nos damos cuenta de su secreto, son hombres lobo y protegen el pueblo de Green Creek, en el cual viven.
Sin duda mis personajes favoritos desde el comienzo de la historia son Ox y Joe, los cuales se conocen desde el día que Ox visita a la familia, y desde entonces crean un lazo mas fuerte que cualquier metal precioso, que evoluciona a lo largo de toda la historia. Puede parecer que es una historia de amor, pero es mas que eso, por que ademas de la historia de amor que trascurre en esta historia, hay acontecimientos que te marcan desde el comienzo.
Tengo que agradecer también el estilo de escritura del autor, el cual mezcla la prosa y la escritura ligera, para darnos una novela (que aunque asuste el tamaño) ligera, bonita y con un algo que te engancha y te causa todo tipo de emociones.
Tengo también que mencionar que la visibilidad que se le da al colectivo LGBT en esta historia es perfecto, sin ningún cliché a mi parecer, y que sigue su propio curso, ademas que el genero de Urban Fantasy, el cual esta muy presente, esta muy bien llevado ademas de la acción.
Y a diferencia por ejemplo de otros autores, no abusa del erotismo dentro de la historia, y lo que se nos presenta es Creme de la Creme.
Este es sin duda uno de mis libros favoritos de entre todo los que he leído y sin duda uno de los que mas me ha marcado. A ver si subo reseña del segundo de esta saga de 4 libros y estrenan ya en Español los dos últimos libros de la saga. Estoy deseandolo.

I’m struggling with this one and how to rate it.
Klune is a wonderful storyteller. His writing is great, he really brings you into the story, the characters are most well developed, his world building is beautiful.
But this is a werewolf story and it includes that weird werewolf imprinting nonsense. But this time it’s a 10 year old boy who imprints on a 16 year old boy. The 16 year old, Ox, our main character, doesn’t see Joe as anything sexual or romantic until 7 years later, when they are now 17 and 23 and nothing really happens between them until they are 20 and 26. But it’s still weird. He was 10.
Then there’s wolf possessive-ness and ownership on top of it like saying Ox can’t leave and is “mine” etc. He is given choices. But it also doesn’t feel like he really has one. Like he’s under some werewolf version of an encanto spell vampires can do.
There is a scene where Joe has been away for some time and has now returned and he and Ox are discussing if their romantic relationship should continue. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with a romance in it where we are supposed to be cheering for their love, but I couldn’t. This is the first time I’ve read something like this and been like “no, break it off and walk away”. Of course he didn’t and he couldn’t and I don’t know how that sits with me. It feels icky and I don’t really like it.

this book tries to do the complex relationship between morally grey characters but fails to hit the mark as there’s no real place for it within the story. aside from this it’s a decent if not drawn out read.
