I’ve never really gotten along with classics very well but I’ve always wanted to know what happens in some of the most popular classics, so when I heard about the manga classics, I immediately hopped on the opportunity to read one. Jane Eyre was definitely a great place to start with the manga classics and I can’t wait to read more of them.

I could not stop reading this manga. I was soaking in the details on every page as I read it. The illustrations were beautiful and the story was extremely interesting.

Jane was a great protagonist. She went through so much, but she was resilient through it all and she was a kind soul who had a positive impact on all the people she interacted with. Her story started off as somewhat of a Cinderella step-family story, but she became so much more than just a neglected child by the end of her journey.

The romance was my favorite part of this manga. It was swoonworthy and beautiful. There was so much tension built into the romance that made me unsure of the couple’s fate.

A lot of my praises were for the story as a whole, but I need to also praise the people who adapted this story into this manga format. I’ve had to read my fair share of classics and nearly all of them are dull and written in a complicated old English. It takes a skilled creator to make a classic story into one that I actually enjoy, so the creators of this manga did an incredible job.

Overall I highly recommend this manga to everyone. Don’t be afraid to pick up a manga classic if you aren’t into classics. I’m sure everyone can find something that they like about them. Oh, and it’s also worth noting that there’s some analysis of the story as a whole at the end of this manga. If you are studying Jane Eyre for school, I’m sure this manga and the analysis at the end will be beneficial to you.

I received an arc of this manga from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I think that it's really awesome to take a classic and turn it into a manga. My biggest issue is that it's hard to read on a tablet/phone. Since they are read back to front, you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to start the book. Also the page breaks are not very easy to see so sometimes you can not tell what page you are on.
Jane Eyre has had an abusive childhood at the hands of her aunt. When she is cast out to a charity school, it ends up being the best thing. With an education she is able to become a governess for the mysterious Edward. Secrets threaten to tear everything apart. What will she do?

This version of Jane Eyre is a great look at the Manga Classics.
It’s a great book and it’s brilliant for both fans of Jane Eyre and for people just reading it and getting into the story.

Where were these manga adaptations when I was in school? I would've loved these!
Full disclosure: I read these mangas as a quick way to gauge if I will enjoy reading the original classics. I understand that this is a coward's way of doing it since I am spoiling plot twists and endings for myself, and I will be missing nuances that only the original novels will provide. However, time is short and I need to really believe in a tale to embark on reading hundreds of pages of difficult English (English is my second language forgive me).

Now on to ✨Jane Eyre✨:
Hello badass of the 1800s! She's a force of nature!
I do love her stubborn and independant streak, which together with her romance with Mr. Rochester, a typically looked-down-upon pairing of unequal status, form Charlotte Brontë's social commentary.

I'm not the biggest fan of the men in this story; quite frankly I am not attached to Mr. Rochester despite his character development, and do not understand Jane's quickly-formed loyalty to him. Although that might have something to do with me crushing hard on Jane and thinking that poor Bertha deserved so, so much better.

I did enjoy reading this very much though, although not quite enough to brave the original 500+ pages.

I read about half of this before stopping and I don't think I'm going to pick it back up. I enjoyed what I read, but having read Jane Eyre who knows how many times, I was bored by this adaptation.

This manga wasn't very accessible as an e-book but after reading it backwards and upside down ;) I enjoyed this retelling of Jane Eyre. The odd thing was that in the book the characters both call themselves "plain" and "ugly" but they're drawn in the manga style so of course they are gorgeous ;) I also enjoyed the author's addition of her process of creating the manga version, and the history of aspects of their lives in England at that time (for example, the role of a governess). All in all it was an novel version of a book I really enjoy.

I really love the Manga Classics series!!

This was another great read, as it is one of my favorite gothic romances. I loved seeing Jane Eyre come to life in manga format. The art style is great, the story is faithful to the original Jane Eyre and at the end of the manga they give rough sketches, references, and story behind creating the manga! I'm definitely going to have to buy a copy of this for my own collection!

Disclosure: I received Manga Classics: Jane Eyre as an ARC and I'm voluntarily leaving this review.
