Unfortunately, this was not my favorite and now I understand why I initially DNF'ed the start of this series a long time ago. Reading this further, I didn't feel as if there was any true retelling despite the characters almost being a weird replica of their namesakes last names. Watson and Holmes didn't feel like real teenagers. The bad guy was predicatable and the side characters also didn't feel real enough to latch on to. Overall, not something I would readily recommend but if you want something easy to go through in terms of accessibility/language, this might be it for you.

Hm. So this book grew on me but it definitely had it's issues. There's definitely a trigger warning for rape and sexual assault. I was almost turned off in the beginning by the way some characters talked about Charlotte Holmes. It was later revealed that character had, in fact, raped her earlier and that was... upsetting. I'm not sure the characters—especially the adults—handled that very well at all.
I think most of my issues were in it being from Jamie Watson's perspective. Which I get, because obviously it's a Sherlock book. But making Sherlock a girl and Watson a guy lead to some uncomfortable moments in how he thought about her, looked at her, etc. Honestly I'm not sure I like that there is hints of romance between them. I kind of wish they'd just be friends and Jamie would stop being so... vaguely creepy?
Anyway Charlotte herself is amazing and I did like her a lot. I probably would have gone on to the second one, but my library doesn't have it, and I don't want it enough to buy it right now, alas. Anyway you'll probably love it if you're not as sensitive to rape/assault stuff, and you think high school boys being vaguely creepy in pining after friends (especially ones they've weirdly imagined a friendship in their head with for years before actually meeting said person), you probably will love this lol. It was just... weird, for me.
