I fell in love with Holly when reading Tithe. She is a great story teller and her writing is fantastic. This book was odd and fun at the same time. Looking forward to reading more in this series.

I didn't understand anything in the beginning, but the twist at the end made it better for me.

20 pages from the end, I was going to give this 3 stars since it was a little hard to get into. But the ending b r o k e  m e and for that I'm giving a whole extra star.
However, the side characters were definitely not fleshed out enough, and it was hard to be as invested in the relationship between Charlie and Vince as the author obviously wanted us to be at the end. I would read a second book if one was released to get over that line, but would have loved to see more of the world building that I loved in her other YA books.

4⭐️ made me perceive my shadow too much

If I’m one thing it’s a holly black fan. She writes intense broken female leads, adds romance without making it dominate the plot and knows how to add a plot twist I am not prepared for. I thought her portrayal of a character in an impoverish and abusive childhood was intense and emotional without being distasteful. The only thing I struggled with in this book was the magic system, I really was just confused on the four types of shadow people and what they did. Hopefully there’s some clarity on this in the next one. I think the second one holds a lot of promise as I hope for a Posey/ Charlie power duo. Audio book was great 👍🏼.
