I wasn't expecting to love this book so much. Enticing, expansive, and so weird. Beautifully engaging and elevated prose. Rich with Easter eggs for fans of topics ranging from world mythology, history, religion, psychology, etc. I especially loved the references to the Hound of Ulster, gnosticism, and the Golem of Prague. The end does come together in a way that doesn't quite feel fully flushed out and left me a bit confused. But still, stunning read.

I just couldn't get into it unfortunately:(

Bought the hardcover and read that

I was unaware, on starting this, that it was connected to Reeves's BRZRKR comic series, which I have not read. Eventually that became clear - or rather, I began to suspect that Reeves was slightly fixated on the "immortal warrior" trope, but the ending credits of the audiobook stated that it is intentionally connected to the comics series.
Without that context, this still works very nicely as a standalone novel. For something so full of gory violence, there's more philosophical pondering than you might expect - it could even be uncharitably said to wander into navel-gazing at points, but never for long. It takes a somewhat nihilistic perspective on life, but ultimately it is an affirming view rather than an empty one. The audiobook was well narrated, with a too-brief segment by Reeves who is excellent to listen to but the broader cast was well done and gave a degree of depth to the narrative and perspectives.
