Oh wow! Awesome book! The start of yet another great book from Piper Rayne. These football players are about to fall one by one. Lee is the first to fall at the feet of his college girlfriend Shayna, and what a wonderful story of how it happens.

I really enjoy Piper Rayne's books, they write such good romances that I can never put them down once I start them. And I truly enjoyed reading You Had Your Chance Lee Burrows. It had some great troupes with it being a second chance, enemies to lovers, sports, forbidden coworker romance, with *slight spoiler* the cliched it was initially a bet storyline. I have always enjoyed storylines with a bet involved because I know when the other party finds out, usually it's going to be a big thing, and rightfully so and therefore it's going to have a really great payoff when they get back together.
One of my favorite parts of this book is when everyone found out that Lee and Shayna were dating. Because they both worked together at Kingsmen Football Team, Lee as the quarterback and Shayna as an athletic trainer. The problem has always been Kingsmen has a no fraternization policy, thereby making their relationship forbidden. So when it came to the attention of the team Shayna was let go, and quite chauvenistically. That's not what I liked about it, what I liked was when Lee finally realized how much of risk Shayna was taking by being with him, why she needed it to be a secret, that him being the quarterback wasn't going to change the outcome, and how the organization treated her like a gold digger like she worried they would he did the only thing he could think of to get her job back. He was willing to leave the job and team he loved so she could get her job back. To Lee it had never occurred to him that he would never have gotten in trouble for their relationship, but once he did realize it I thought his reaction and plan was a great gesture.

This is my first Piper Rayne novel and I didn't know it was a pair of authors. I liked the betrayal and forbidden theme which is one of my favorites, but I felt the characters didn't do it for me and the actual deception wasn't explained clearly.

Lee Burrows, star quarterback of the San Francisco Kingsmen needs to lead his team to victory this year with no injuries so they will renew his contract meaning there cannot be any distractions. Enter Shayna Kudrow, the new athletic trainer. His worst regret. The woman he screwed over for a bet in college. Will he be able to grovel enough for her forgiveness?

I really need to know what was done to actually prove the betrayer was regretful for his actions and that didn't happen for me in this story. I would have felt better if Shayna wasn't so easily persuaded. I needed to see her play hard to get; maybe date a few guys to make him jealous. Something to make him work much harder for absolution.  Yeah, the sex was great, but I just wasn't feeling the love; especially, from Shayna. She seemed more concerned about her career than her love for him. And Lee was a bit naive when it came to spilling the beans about their affair. How did he not know she would be punished for the whole thing? I wasn't happy with her lying down and just taking the hit because she's the woman, but there is a last-minute save and a HEA.

The banter was okay, the groveling was meh, and overall it had a good storyline and interesting supporting characters. Will I pick up the rest of the series?  Perhaps.

This one was just okay. I liked it enough to continue, but something was missing. I've read a few of Piper Rayne's books before, but not too many.

We have Lee Burrows (obviously) and Shayna. He's a pro football player, and she's the new athletic trainer, and they have a bit of a college past.

The story moved a little too quickly, so we never really got the true details of that breakup, which is the center of why they currently have their drama-filled relationship. There could have been a lot more character-building. That's one of the reasons the story didn't hit 4 stars for me. It was short and easy to read/listen to. I wish there had been more to the story. It felt like we were missing so much. There weren't all the laughs I had hoped for. The characters all fell flat, and the story moved without a lot of substance.

If this had been a bit longer, with some more information on the characters' past and present circumstances, it might have earned a higher rating from me, but it just didn't. The smut stars are nil, and the story is a 3.5 rounded down.

You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows is the first book in the Kingsman Football Stars series by Piper Rayne. If you read the prequel, False Start, you’ve been anxiously awaiting the second chance/enemies to lovers story for Lee and Shayna. How much have they changed since college? Can they move past the drama of the past? Can they get over the new obstacles they face in the present, now that they are professional colleagues?
The world building is outstanding in this book. While the chemistry between Lee and Shayna was explosive and well written, I was just as charmed by the secondary characters. The other football players and Shayna’s friend Bryce all bring great dialogue, witty banter, and some laugh out loud moments to even out the mandatory drama you have to have in the story. Overall, it was a fun read with a couple little twists that added to the experience. And, that ending made me so excited for Brady’s book!

I received an advanced review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I recommend reading the prequel novella FALSE START first, it’s currently free and it gives a great introduction to the main characters shared past. ➖︎ https://books2read.com/fstart

Lee is a star NFL quarterback and Shayna is a blast from his past who is now on the training/medical staff of his team.
They were involved in college and things ended very badly.
It’s a fun, steamy and low angst second chance romance. Throw in the sports romance and the forbidden aspect (because they work together, there’s a no fraternization policy in place) and it’s a really fun, sexy read.
Lee has to convince Shayna to give him a second chance and believe in him.
There’s a lot of not so secret longing glances and excuses to be around each other that are so cute and made me feel giddy with the characters.
It’s a common trope and set up because it works. It’s entertaining, it’s light-hearted with enough emotional depth and mild angst/drama to satisfy.
I really liked Lee a lot, he’s not my “usual” bad boy type, he’s kind, sweet and it’s so refreshing. He’s very confident and has a great sense of humor. It makes him a great book boyfriend.
I liked Shayna’s emotional journey, she has some old emotional hang-ups to face, it was dealt with subtly and I appreciated that part of her story.
I enjoyed the secondary characters, they add humor and fun moments to the story. I look forward to the upcoming books with some of these characters.
I enjoyed the crossover from the author duo’s Hockey Hotties series. Lee is the younger brother of Kane my favorite hockey hottie.
I enjoyed the story and liked the characters. I’m really looking forward to the rest of this series so much.
