I remember that I liked Piper Rayne and their stories but unfortunately, this is not the case here.
It's an ok reading but the characters are more than annoying.
I could not connect and I could for the life of me like any of them.
It might be my mood or it might be the book... But well, this did not go well.
Thank you @valentine_pr for the copy.

This was okay for me. The writing itself was fine, but I wasn't a fan of Shayna. I totally get being mad being someone did you wrong. But it's been 8 YEARS! It's like 55% of the way through the book before she finally starts to let that go. And it's never fully explained. There was a bet, Shayna finds out, the details are never talked about, and I really didn't understand what was worth holding a drudge for 8 years. I liked Lee for the most part. I thought he did a good job of apologizing and trying to explain his side even though Shayna repeatedly threw it in his face. They did have good chemistry, and eventually make it through all the crap to be together. Although this wasn't a fav of mine from these authors, I will be reading whatever comes next.

While this isn’t my first book by Piper Rayne, it is my first sports romance and boy was I delivered a touchdown read! Second chance, enemies to lovers, workplace romance…yes, yes and yes!
Lee and Shayna are unexpectedly reunited after a horrible ending during their college year. She’s always been the one that got away and stills weighs heavy on Lee’s mind. He had his playboy ways but Lee was sweet with a heart of gold. Shayna had fire and refused to let anything stand in the way of her dream job, even residual feelings for the star quarterback.
Lee is determined to win Shayna back and this time he’s playing for keeps but she’s not going to make it easy. There was pining, banter, sexual tension…Piper Rayne sure I felt everything that had built between these two over the years and in the present. I loved the anxious waiting period, the question wasn’t will they but when they. And when they did, all bets were off. You had your chance Lee Burrows was hilariously entertaining, funny, sexy and sweet!
I loved the team camaraderie with Lee and the rest of the Kingsmen. It made for so many laugh out loud moments. There were so many little delectable morsels left for the stories to come and I for one cannot wait to read them all. Lee and Shayna were a great kick off to what I already know will be an amazing series!
The audio is a must listen. Callie Dalton and Joe Arden were a dream, absolute aural perfection and truly brought this story to life.

While you can dive straight into this book and get the gist of what happened between Shayna and Lee from this story, I would recommend reading False Start first, for a better understanding of their situation.
I expected major grovelling to happen in this book and I wasn't disappointed. While I wanted to be angry with Lee on Shayna's behalf for how things transpired, I just couldn't do it. He seemed truly repentant for how things went sideways and you could tell that he was honest in his admissions. But she did make him work for it, which I appreciated so hard.
The tension between the two of them was crazy good and the banter was superb.
I can always count on Piper Rayne to get a few chuckles from me and it seems these Kingsmen are going to be extra entertaining.
I thoroughly enjoyed how everything came together in the end and even the fact that the title of the next book was included near the end (Ha! Look out Brady, it's your turn next!) Totally awesome!
Make sure to grab the bonus scene, it's the cherry on top of this delicious snack.

Professional quarterback can't stop thinking about his team's newest athletic trainer, but she wants nothing to do with him after a debacle in college years ago.
Cute and quick second-chance story that had a really good editing pass. It was believable how Shayna overcame her dislike of Lee, and how the couple struggled between becoming more serious but also disobeying their team's "no fraternization" rule. I liked how Lee worked hard to show Shayna she could trust him. But only rating this three stars because nothing really stood out about the plot or characters, and Shayna got on my nerves. Make sure you read False Start, the prequel novella which shows what happened between Lee and Shayna in college.

I listened to the audiobook and I enjoyed the way the narration was done. The male narrator was the voice of all male characters and the female narrator was the voice of all female characters even if it wasn’t their POV. I wish all audiobooks were like this. It’s easier to get lost in the book when they aren’t trying to mimic the opposite genders voice. With that said I wasn’t a fan of the female narrators voice but it didn’t bother me enough that I couldn’t continue.
The main couple dates in college but apparently there was a bet between the Mmc and his friends about whether he could get the fmc into bed (she was his tutor). The bet was never explained although it was the main issue throughout most of the book. I found out there’s a prequel novella that explains the bet by reading a review on this book when I was finished. I think it would’ve made more sense to explain the bet in this book than to need to read a prequel novella.
I enjoyed the tension between the mc’s. I like the second chance romance so I couldn’t wait for them to get together and Lee could be pretty cute sometimes. I didn’t like the nickname Shy pie, that’s absolutely horrible lol I cringed every time he said it. I also didn’t like how he kept pushing her to go public with their relationship. He was pretty ignorant to think he would be punished when he’s the star player, really naive for a man his age honestly. Then when shit hit the fan he didn’t even try to lie about it although they technically had no proof. Pictures of him walking into the building wasn’t proof. And what was the beef that doctor had with him? That was never explained. Also why is the title so long??
After writing this review I realized how much I truly disliked the book and lowered my rating. I’m not sure why I didn’t dnf.

This was a typical second chance romance, but was cute. I loved how much Lee Burrows wanted to prove himself different, but Shayna didn't even want to give him the time of day. I did find this story a bit annoying though, because the whole "they both work for the sports agency and the woman is the one who will lose her job" becomes a little tiring and seems so unfair.
I liked Lee and Shayna, I just didn't think we go enough backstory (or even story) about them. I would have liked to have the past time line be brought into this, so we could see more of what happened, through flashbacks or something.
It was a quick easy read and I liked that.

Book 1 in the Kingsmen Football Stars series. Please do yourself a favor and read the prequel [b:False Start|63039202|False Start (Kingsmen Football, #0.5)|Piper Rayne|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1666183626l/63039202._SX50_.jpg|97245918] first as it gives the scoop of the bet that took place in college. There's a link to get it free on my review there.
Featuring ~ dual 1st person POV, met in college, characters in their late 20's, sports romance ~ football, quarterback, athletic trainer, office (field) romance, one sided enemies to lovers, secret dating, steamage
Lee & Shayna
Shayna is the new athletic trainer and Lee is the star quarterback of the San Francisco Kingsmen. They haven't seen each other in 8 years after a bet drew a wedge in their budding relationship. Shayna tries to stay mad at Lee, but it's super hard when he's genuinely sorry for what he did and he's got rock hard, smooth abs to boot.
Yes it's predictable because we know how the sneaking around due to a no fraternizing policy will turn out if you've read the trope before. The usual conflict towards the end I could have went without, but all wrapped up perfectly.
It was exciting meeting some of the players on the team and I'm looking forward to each of their books. Up next is [b:You Can't Kiss the Nanny, Brady Banks|60438842|You Can't Kiss the Nanny, Brady Banks (Kingsmen Football Stars, #2)|Piper Rayne|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1667568583l/60438842._SX50_.jpg|95243816].
After I am done with their football series I will most definitely have to check out the Hockey Hotties.

I got this book as an ARC and it was super friggen cute. I loved both the characters and I am a sucker for a football romance! I loved how Shayna was a PT for the team and tried to avoid Lee. Funny joke babe, wasn’t going to happen
To start off with, I think you need to read False Start before reading this book, it gives you some background information that I feel you need before starting this book. I like that the other characters are coming back in the new series by Piper Rayne. The prequel also shows how far the characters have come from college to where they are now. And while they weren't together they were both working towards their dreams and grew to be what they each needed when it came time for their relationship. The FMC was a part of the sports medicine team, and I like that Piper Rayne showed how hard it can be to be a woman in a male-dominated profession, but I would have loved to see more because I feel like in books it can be slightly romanticized, but you can see that **spoiler alert**
the doctor didn't want to have her treat the QB1, despite how well she was doing with the other players, and how is she supposed to learn if you never give her a chance...
4.5 stars rounded to a 5.
Also, I am a sucker for titles being in the book, and it foreshadowed the next book title, which I love, 10/10 for that!
