What do you do when your former flame walks into the football training room ? Second chance romance enters your mind. Lee Burrows sees his old flame athletic trainer Shayna who isn’t ready to forgive him quite yet, as she should. But there are some obstacles in his way, the no fraternization rule the team has with the players and the staff and her not forgiving right away. I enjoyed their chemistry from the start and the instant sparks they still had even through they weren’t together. Shayna had a strong independent character and that was great to read. This was a great book for those who love enemies to lovers, second chance romance, sport romance or even work place.

I received this ARC through the publisher and I am voluntarily reviewing this book, opinions are my own.

What better way to end the new year, than by reading a deliciously fun and spicy sports romance? The first in a new sports romance series focused around football by Piper Rayne, You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows, was fantastic!

Lee Burrows, star quarterback of the San Francisco Kingsmen NFL team has a blast from the past when the woman whose heart he broke in college, Shayna Kudrow, is hired as a sports therapist for their football team. He desperately wants to make amends, but she wants nothing to do with him. Girlfriend can hold a grudge… but their chemistry is off the charts and she can only hold out for so long before she gives in. But it's against team policy to have a relationship between players and staff… so is either willing to take a chance on each other over their career?

I really enjoyed this book. Lee could be the typical star player, and play the field in all the stereotypical ways. But he really isn't. He is quite humble and down to earth, with a strong work ethic and moral compass. You can really tell his character genuinely feels bad for how he treated Shayna in college and is heartfelt when wanting to make amends. Shayna is a strong, fierce and independent woman. I love that her character has a career in a profession that is primarily male-dominated. Your inner feminist will come out to root for Shayna and the struggles she faces to get where she wants to be in her profession.

I do wish we had gotten more details about their time together in college and the events leading up to their break-up. This could have easily been incorporated by writing in some flashback scenes from both character perspectives. We only get their thoughts that touch on those events, and while you get the gist of it, it could have been more fleshed out in details.

Overall this is a strong start to a new series, and I look forward to reading more about the rest of Kingsmen players!

Second chance romance books are usually a hit or a miss for me, and this was definitely a hit! Lee and Shayna were so good together and I loved their chemistry. The progression in their relationship was very natural and Piper Rayne's writing style makes it easy to really get into the book. Shayna's character is sassy and assertive and I thought she was such a strong character. Lee Burrows is charming and fun and I just loved the banter between them two.

One thing I really enjoy about Piper Rayne books is how the supporting characters are so invested in the main couple's relationship. I find it very wholesome and it makes me excited to read the other books in the series. I'm looking forward to reading Brady's story!

I also didn’t realize until the end that this series is tied in with the Modern Love series and I was so happy when I found out!! I love all the interconnections!

I listened to the audio courtesy of the authors. It doesn’t disappoint - this story occurring some years after Shayna and Lee first met in college. It’s a second chance, workplace sports romance with the forbidden nature of these two being that he’s the star QB and she’s now an athletic trainer.

What’s nice is that for the most part he falls first and tries to convince her their relationship can work. Naive much? Or easy when you’re the QB with nothing to lose.

Loved this one shows a great friendship between Shayne and Bryce which plays out in later books in the series.

First: to keep yourself from being confused, do read False Start. It's the prequel novella to this book. I would say that it's necessary for this book.

Moving on. This book takes place 8 years later. Lee is in the NFO and is the quarterback for the San Francisco Kingsmen. Shayna has just signed on to be the athletic trainer for the Kingsmen. Queue massive amounts of tension.

Lee desperately wants to make amends for the absolute garbage way that they ended 8 years ago. Shayna wants nothing to do with him, except for what needs done for her job. Yeahhh...Lee's not about to let that go. He pulls out ALL the stops to get under her skin to earn her forgiveness and her love.

This book is full of character introductions. The tight football family that you may expect comes into play. I'm so looking forward to the rest of the books in the series so that I can get the the other player's stories!

I did listen to the audiobook and I absolutely loved it. It was narrated by Callie Dalton and Joe Arden. Total ear candy. The performance was flawless and I doubt I could have enjoyed it more. They really did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life.
