@authorpiperrayne is an auto buy for me and I was so excited to start their new football series Kingsmen Football Stars. We got a glimpse of Lee Burrows in their previous hockey series #HockeyHotties, Offside with #55 through his brother Kane so I was very ready for this series to begin.
Lee Burrows is the QB1 for San Fran’s Kingsmen and in a contract year so he has to be his best so that he can stay with the Kingsmen. Then the first day of preseason, in walks Shayna Kudrow his ex from college. Shayna is a new athletic trainer for the team and not excited to be around Lee again.
In college they dated and Shayna thought it was her great love, but it turned out they started dating due to a bet Lee made. Obviously causing them to end in less than ideal terms. However Lee has always regretted that and wants nothing more than to apologize and see if they can start over. They have to face many obstacles, mainly how it is against the rules for athletic trainers to date players but the end of this book has a great surprise!
I always love starting new series because we get glimpses into the characters for the upcoming books. I am so excited to watch Brady, Miles and especially Chase fall in love! I can tell this will be another great Piper Rayne series.

I have been anxiously awaiting this football series to start and it did not disappoint. I am a sucker for second chance romances and I really enjoyed this one.
Shayna has accepted her dream job working for the Kingsmen Football Club. While she knows her ex, Lee is a player she isn’t about to let that stop her. Their story was addicting and I enjoyed watching them navigate being back in each others lives and dealing with the past and present.
I’m impatiently waiting for the next in this series of standalones.
(Note: I did not read the prequel novella to this series and I don’t feel like I missed out on anything.)
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.

SECOND CHANCE / SLOW BURN / FORBIDDEN ROMANCE / SPORTS ROMANCE / HEA / NO CHEATING
Lee Burrows is the star quarterback for the Kingsmen football team, but his life has not always been so fabulous. At one time, he was just a regular guy playing football in college. Which is where he met the one that got away, Shayna Kudrow. They burned bright like a flame until Shayna found out Lee Burrows' secret. The crash and burn was brutal.
But years later, Shayna is back, working for the Kingsmen team as a physical therapist. And Lee Burrows wants nothing more than for Shayna to forgive him, but Shayna wants nothing more than to forget the quarterback even exists.
Lee Burrows will have to work hard to earn his lost love's forgiveness, and maybe give up more than he ever thought that he was willing to.
Okayyyy, Lee Burrows is such a simp. It had literally been eight years, and yet as soon as Shayna shows up, he is following her everywhere. It was so sweet, but if I was Shayna, I don't know if I could have ever forgiven Lee. What he did was MESSED UP.
I literally read this book in one sitting, couldn't put it down! Think "She's All That" movie mixed in with The Quarterback Sneak by Kandi Steiner. Perfect!

I was so excited to have a new sport series from Piper Rayne, and this one started off amazing! If you are able I suggest reading the prequel novella, False Start, to see how Shayna and Lee met in college and what went wrong back then.
This book is set 8 years after the break up in college, Shanya is the newest athletic trainer for the San Francisco Kingsman, where Lee if their star Quarterback.
There is so many emotions caught up between these two, a lot of unresolved feelings and tension. Shayna wants to do her job, be professional and have no one know their past-she must protect her heart. Lee on the hand, wants her, her forgiveness, her understand, her friendship and her just back in her life. He has never let go of what happened between them or to the feelings he has for Shayna, she was always the one who got away.
The chemistry and connection between these two was so high, I loved watching as their relationship changed and deepened throughout the story. Shayna stood her ground and made Lee understand how she was feeling. She wanted to protect her heart, he really worked for it to make up for what happened. Her trust in him suffered but Lee wouldn’t give up, I love how sweet he was and how he showed her that she could truly count on him. These two made a great team and I loved their story, I was smiling the whole time I read it! But can they keep doing what they are doing? They must keep their relationship a secret because of work, and Shayna wants to keep it causal, she doesn’t want another heartbreak. It takes a toll on the both.
Shout out to Bryce, I really enjoy when authors add in strong female friendship and support system. She was a great friend to Shayna and I’m hoping we get to see more from her!
It was fantastic meeting the other team members and looks like we even got teased a couple of other stories, especially Brady’s book next!
I loved how these author tied in a few of their other series in this book, it is such a fun addition to the story! I am very much looking forward to the rest of this series from Piper Rayne.

I read the synopsis of You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows and knew I had to read this book. I’ve been reading many Dark Romance books and needed a Contemporary Sports Romance book with a mixture of the following tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Forced Proximity, and Second Chance at Love. Piper Rayne delivered something fluffy to read when I needed it most during the Holiday season. Plus, they gave me a hot football quarterback star that had to do a lot of groveling to win over the FMC again after what he did to her in college.
Thanks to False Start, I already loved the main characters in this story and fell head over heels for their love story again in this book. Lee and what he had to do to win over Shayna and how he proved to her how he cared for her instantly made me fall for him. He was such a sweetie to her. Shayna did make it difficult for him, which in my eyes, she should’ve since she was not going to hand over her heart until he proved himself. He did this in so many ways in this book. The scene that won me over was when he took care of her when she was sick. Any guy willing to stay over and ensure his girl takes her medicine and eats wins me over immediately. This scene reminded me of when I first dated my hubs and how he cared for me when I had the stomach bug. My husband has cared for me for twenty years whenever I’m sick, and I do the same for him. Lee being there for Shayna during this time, I knew how much he cared for her. He didn’t care about the consequences. Yes, Lee, you instantly won over my heart, and I’ll forever remember how he never gave up when it came to getting back with Shayna.
Do the characters get a HEA? Yes, they do, and a much-needed one was perfect for them both. I give this book 4.5 stars and can’t wait to read more from these authors, especially from this series. I loved how the authors introduced the other football star players in this book that will be getting their books too. After reading this book, I’m invested in finding out who wins over the rest of the football stars’ hearts. Oh, and I’ve already added the authors’ backlist of books they have written to my ever-growing TBR. I loved this story and know I’ll enjoy the rest of the books they’ve written.
Would I recommend this book? Yes. I highly recommend it to readers who enjoy Second Chance stories where the MMC has to grovel to win over the FMC. I’ve always loved these types of stories in romance books. If you are also a fan of Sports/Football Romances where the characters are forced back together since one is the star quarterback, and the other is their athletic trainer.
Favorite Quote(s): Taking her hand, I pull her up so she’s standing in front of me. Then I pick her up by the waist, walk to the far side of the table, and deposit her on the end. “What the—” “Did you forget? I lean in close, my breath tickling her ear. “You’re dessert, shy pie.”

⭐️⭐️⭐⭐ Book Review
⭐️⭐️⭐⭐ Book Review
Meet the Authors: Piper Rayne is a USA Today Bestselling author duo. Their goal is to bring the reader romance stories that have “heartwarming humor with a side of sizzle.” They both have kindle’s full of one-clickable books. They are both married to men who drive them to drink and chauffeur their children around.
Reader’s Thoughts: You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows written by Piper Rayne is the first of three novels in the Kingsmen Football Stars series. This second chance, enemies to lovers, sports romance is full of witty banter, tension, and spice. Our swoony hero, Lee, is the star quarterback of the Kingsmen football team. Our sassy heroine, Shayna, is a sports therapist who finally scores her dream job. Can the two of them rekindle their friendship following the events that occurred 8 years ago back in their college days?
I have read a few books written by this duo and I absolutely love them. This novel was no different from the rest. I adore the writing style. I am always drawn in by the second chapter. The characters are lovable and relatable. The story line is flawless and never skips a beat. I couldn’t get enough of Shayna and Lee. The secondary characters in this novel really completed the story and I can’t wait to see what the remainder of this series holds. Thank you, @Valentine_pr_ and @authorpiperrayne for providing me with a complimentary review copy. In no way has that influenced my voluntary review.
3.5 ⭐️ rounded up
Tropes:
- sports (football)
- second chance
- work place (sports trainer + NFL player)
Lee Burrows, QB1 for the San Francisco Kingsmen, is in the last year of his contract and wanting to blow this season out of the water to get resigned to the team that’s become his second family. All of that gets put on the back burner when his biggest regret walks through the door as the newest sports therapist for the team, and he’ll do anything in his power to her Shayna Kudrow to forgive him.
Eight years ago Shayna got her heart broken by Lee after learning their relationship was built on a lie—a bet. Now she’s living her dream of being a therapist for an NFL team, and she refuses to let Lee Burrows ruin that for her. Thrust together again thanks to Lee getting injured, the pair mend their issues, and the chemistry that was always between them gets set ablaze.
Unfortunately thanks to a no fraternization policy, Lee and Shayna have to keep their relationship secret or else her job is at stake. Of course shit hits the fan, the pair get outed, and Shayna’s dreams go up in smoke. My biggest gripe was how quickly all this was swept under the rug and then the book just ends with them living happily ever after… Like girl just lost her dream job but it’s fine she’s still got her man
