This was brilliant to read, it had a good plot and battles. I loved Usha and I loved how she was handled and her arc of finding out the truth of her parentage well. I also found that she was an interesting and compelling character. I loved Palin and how he was handled, which I do think that he has proved himself more than just Raistilin's nephew. I do think that in this he became a good character and the relationship he developed with Usha interesting too. Yet I also liked Steel and how his loyalty and hope was challenged throughout the novel. Yet I also loved Raistilin and how he was handled and his reunion with hit twin brought a tear to my eyes. I loved his contribution to the story and how he was a compelling part to the story without out shining the newer characters. I also love how the old characters were well respected as much as the newer ones too.

The book was very slow going, but the climax made it all worthwhile. I adored the way the characters really grew in an amazing way. However, it could have been a bit more fast-paced.
So, I wrote a review for this when I read it but accidentally deleted a whole bunch of reviews when I was reorganizing my shelves... So I guess I just have to read them all again so I can give accurate reviews :D
Another great book in the Dragon Lance series-- and the return of my favorite, Raistlin Majere, best character ever. I was worried that his return would make no sense, or that his character would be destroyed in the process, but all was well done. The newer characters-- Palin, Usha, Steel, etc., were not as well-defined as the Heroes of the Lance (they were a little cardboard-cutout-ish), but a fun storyline. I was sad to see the exodus of the gods at the end.
I read this book about 20 years ago and haven't since, but I've been re-reading all of the core Dragonlance books and this was next after the Chronicles, Legends and Lost Chronicles trilogies.
It's nice to continue the saga of the Dragonlance characters, even if this book is mostly fan service. Summer Flame was mainly written for a new D&D card system, so I don't know how narratively necessary this book was (then again, what sequel is?). It was mostly fun and unfortunately the characters are not as well-developed as the characters from the Chronicles & Legends trilogies.
Although if they were to make a movie, I think this book would be a great starting point simply because Usha is a character where the audience can see the eyes of the world through because everything is new to her as is the audience. But who am I kidding, they're never going to get a good movie or TV show from these books.
If you're like me, you'll want to read it regardless, but you might have a hard time getting into it.
