This book felt like another level of excellence and maturity in this series and I love it when you can clearly see characters grow. However, I was unsatisfied with how certain things got wrapped up at the end.

This is the last book in the series and I definitely liked it better than the second one. I think I just like the characters together again, the second book was a bit of a slog, but Isabel wasn't in it. This one starts with Isabel and Curzon heading to South Carolina still in search of Ruth, and ends at Yorktown a few weeks after the surrender of Cornwallis. This series covers an historical time period from a perspective that we haven't often seen: the Revolutionary War from the perspective of enslaved people and free people of color. It's fascinating and I hope to see more books covering this era from authors of color.

I really enjoy Laurie Anderson's writing

I have learned so much from reading the Seeds of Amerjca trilogy. After finishing this book (book #3 in the trilogy), I watched the movie The Patriot for a 2nd time. This book has really deepened my understanding of the revolution & more importantly, the unfair treatment of African Americans who fought for our country's freedom.
