This was a really cool retelling inspired by Robin McKinley's own excellent retelling (well, one of her retellings), Rose Daughter. It definitely stands by itself, though, with its banter and uh Horrors. It would not be Kingfisher without the Horrors, but boy they sure do ramp up quickly towards the end. Like the

sort of Horrors. Oof. Also, there's mention of suicide:

a woman killed herself a long time ago offcreen, but her blood still stains a rug.

It was kind of jarring. Still had fun with it, though. Bryony and Holly are great!

Excellent homage to Robin McKinley's Rose Daughter. Shorter of course, but with an interesting twist on Beauty as a gardener.
