I was much more impressed by Book 2 than Book 1 - might more tightly packed action and the sense of moving steadily to bigger revelations. Looking forward to Book 3.

Loved it! The Dark Days Pact is even better than its predecessor - there's so much more action, no slower parts like in book one. This novel is deliciously dark and suspenseful, gripping and ominous.
I love the beautiful writing style and rich world - the amount of research Alison Goodman has done for this series is simply astounding. I also couldn't help but notice the amazing character development Lady Helen has gone through in this book. I loved her in The Dark Days Club already, but now she exceeded all my expectations of her and became such a strong willed woman, true Reclaimer and who knows, maybe even a future leader.
With every new novel written, Alison Goodman secures her place amongst my favourite authors of all time. I need the last book in my hands asap, it will be a long wait for me to finally find out all the answers.

4.5.* The second in the Lady Helen series sees her cross-dressing as Mr Amberley as she learns to fight, preparing herself for the ritual that will join her with her maid Darby, her chosen Terrene, and come into her full Reclaimer powers. However, her powers are growing stronger while her mentor Carlston's are degenerating. And she is feeling a power between them that she shouldn't -- Reclaimers are not meant to be bonded, in love. The notion of bonding, such as between Reclaimer and Terrene, between more than one set of lovers, is extended further throughout the book, and will have significant consequences in the final battle between Grand Reclaimer and Grand Deceiver. It has been a year since I read the first book, so it did take me a little time to get back into the magical, alchemical, Regency world where Reclaimers battle Deceivers who glut on innocents. Goodman provides ample worldbuilding, both of the magical world, and of the historical world of Brighton in 1812. This is fast-paced, and full of plot twists, setting up for the huge reveal about the Grand Deceiver in the third book of the trilogy. Recommended.

I really enjoyed the first book and now the second; the second obviously has more action, but I truly appreciated the whole story and the adventure and challenges Lady Helen faces throughout and her underdog status as a lady. Good story and can't wait for the third book to come out!
Just as wonderful as the first. I love this world Goodman has created. The forbidden love between the main characters is so achingly poignant. Oh my goodness...the feels in this one. This is becoming one of my favorite series. I can't wait to read the next one!
I wasn't as enthralled with this story as the first book, but it picked up at the end
Just as fun as the first one. This series is already among my favorites. The characters, the magic, and the world continue to be well crafted.
My one small complaint is the plot moment that instigates the betrothal in the transition into the third act. It was necessary for the continued love quadrangle between Carlston, Helen, Selbourn, and Elise, but it didn't feel organic to the story. I'm not quite sure the full consequences of that moment were explored; that could very well be addressed in the next book.
Nonetheless, I eagerly anticipate the conclusion to this series.
